Natives slip just £12 per head at St Boswells

Topping the sale at £1270 was an Aberdeen Angus cross bullock from Messrs Cockburn, Kingside, while the champion, an Angus cross bullock from Messrs Gray, Sunnycroft, sold for the top price per kg of 250p.

The award for the best pen of eight Aberdeen Angus calves was presented to Messrs Ross, Wester Middleton, whose calves later sold for £1045 per head to the judge, Mr Johnson, Tuthill.

By the end of the day, bullocks averaged 193.86p per kg and heifers at 180.95p.
