The sixteenth annual show and sale of Bluefaced Leicester rams and females, on behalf of the Bluefaced Leicester Sheep Breeders Association, was held by Penrith and District Farmers’ Mart.
The pre-sale show was judged by G Inman, Witcherslack, who awarded the champion rosette to a shearling from Messrs Lord, Hewgill House, Stainmore, Kirkby Stephen, which is sired by F52 Hewgill, and was purchased by G and HR Shields, Tarn House, Ravenstonedale for £5500. A ram lamb, also from the Hewgill flock, achieved a top of £4000. Sired by Marriforth G23, he was knocked down to MA Coulter, Northern Ireland.
Taking reserve overall honours was a ram lamb from JH Little, Bank End Mill, which was later sold for £650.
Securing the female champion was a ewe lamb, again from Messrs Lord, Hewgill House, which was sold for £540.
The reserve champion female was a ewe lamb that sold to £520, from WM Hutchinson and Sons, Redgate.
