A daughter of one of the most talked about cows in Europe this year, Riverdane Ashlyn’s Gold, attracted the lead price of 3800gns at the October Border and Lakeland Holstein show and sale at Carlisle.

Warnelview Ashley ET, a May 2018-born heifer is the result of a flush from the cow that won her class at both the European Show and National Holstein Show and sired by Walnutlawn Slater. Consigned by KJ and CS Wilson of the Warnelview herd from Thursby, Carlisle, she was bought by Messrs Jackson, Guillyhill, Dumfries.

Canonbie-based producers, R Byers and Son, Woodslee, bought the next two top priced lots at 2400gns and 2200gns, both of which were from Skirwith Hall Farms, Penrith.

The first, Stowbeck Equinox Connie, a first prize junior heifer in milk by Netherside Equinox, is bred from the G77 Stowbeck Dreams Connie.

The second, Stowbeck Freedom Ester, by Tarshaw Freedom, is bred from three generations of VG dams. Skirwith Hall Farms sold a further four heifers to average £2005.

The Logan herd owned by the Yates family from Castle Douglas sold 11 heifers to average £1907 including three that sold for 2000gns. This included Logan Kingpin Perfection, bred from six generations of Ex or VG dams, which sold giving 44kg of milk per day to TF Genetics, Cumnock, Ayrshire.

The other two sold to Messrs Baldwin and Son, Ratchliffe Wha Lance, Preston and Messrs Roper and Son, Longridge, Preston.

Judge Tom Blamire of the Whinnow herd, found his champion in Bankview Murry Lady, from Mark Walton, Kirby Stephen, which later sold for £1800 to Matt Stephens, Winter Tarn Farm.

The reserve from the same home was Bankview Hayden Lynne, which made 1920gns again to the Roper family from Preston.

The sale concluded by 69 yearling heifers from the Luckow Holstein herd in Germany. They were sired by some of the best sires from the Alta stud and sold to 900gns for a daughter of AltaExpat, bred from a high yielding Surefire dam.
