Some 1377 store cattle were forward for Aberdeen and Northern marts, Thainstone's weekly sale where 606 bullocks averaged 194.6p whilst 274 heifers levelled at 196.5p.

Bullocks sold to 264.4p per kg for Aberdeen- Angus crosses from Innister, Rousay and £1250 for Limousin cross from Cooperhill, Forglen.

Charolais crosses from Bogie Street, Huntly, led the heifers at 252.3p and £1140 for Simmental crosses from Culquhassen, Glenluce.

In the pre-sale show a Charolais cross bullock from Leonard and Isobel Wishart, Bakkanlee, Whitesness, Walls, Shetland, took champion with a seven-month-old bullock which later realised £900.

Also forward were more than 110 breeding cattle, which was topped at £2100 twice for a Simmental cross with bull calf and a Limousin cow with heifer calf both from Inchbruich.

Store lambs met a steady trade with breeding rams topping at £400 for Texel cross shearlings from Upper Sauchen, Ordhead.
