Entries from Aberdeenshire breeder, Sharon Buchan, Auchmacoy, Ellon, led the way at a joint pedigree cattle show and sale at Newark, producing four of the top five highest priced Lincoln Reds to include the lead three males.

The sale which included pedigree Longhorns was topped at 4400gns by Auchmacoy Xerxes, an 11-month-old homozygous polled Lincoln Red bull backed by home-bred genetics on both sides. The sire is the Auchmacoy Lancelot son, Auchmacoy Usama, while the dam, Auchmacoy Ethel, is by Auchmacoy Langworth. First prize bull calf and overall champion calf, Xerxes sold to Messrs Clough and Son, Halton Holegate, Spilsby, Lincoln.

Auchmacoy Usama was the sire of the next two top priced bull calves, Auchmacoy Xeno, a similarly aged calf this time bred from Auchmacoy Eileen, also by Langworth, selling to Nottingham Consultants, Southwell, Notts.

Minutes later, Mrs Buchan's third prize bull calf, Auchmacoy Xavier, out of Westacre Bianca, made 3000gns to Rand Farm Park, Rand, Lincoln.

Adding to the Auchmacoy celebrations, Auchmacoy Bianca, a two-year-old in-calf heifer sold for the second top price amongst the heifers at 3000gns, after securing the female championship. A daughter of Beverley Samson, out of a previous home-bred Bianca by Auchmacoy Orlando, she sold due to Brackenhurst Warrior, up to Orkney with Messrs Drever, Sanday.

The reserve female, Premier Xclusive, a 19-month-old maiden heifer from R Mawer, Corner Farm, Woodhall Spa, Lincs, also headed home to Orkney, this time with Messrs Brown, Sanday, at 2400gns. She is by Foulness Ultra and out of Holyoak Orchid.

Top price amongst the females was 3400gns for Hemingby Polly, an April 2017-born heifer from Michael Read, Horncastle, Lincs, purchased by Messrs Green, Irnham, Grantham. Polly is by Heminby Illustrious and sold due to Brockenhurst Viper.

The reserve male champion and native junior inter-breed bull champion at the Royal Bath and West, topped the Longhorn trade at 3100gns. Pointer Eat You Alive, a rising two-year-old by Aberdeen Nik out of Avonvale Imke, was consigned by D Howden, Cornbury Park, Charlbury, and sold to Messrs Brad-Shaw, Church Eaton, Stafford.

John Close, Fishwick Mains, Berwick on Tweed, sold the lead priced female at 2300gns to Messrs Banham, Acle, Norwich. This was the first prize winner, Fishwick Rosella, a Fishwick Lord of The Rings daughter out of Fishwick Imelda, a Blackbrook Pirate-sired cow. She sold due to Heronbrook Ned Kelly.
