Suffolk females led the way at North West Auctions' multi-breed show and sale of sheep at J36, producing the lead prices and top averages.

The pre-sale show, judged by Matthew Horner, Scorner, saw the championship rosette presented to a ewe carrying twins from Richard Batty, Selside. Backing his decision, she later sold to the judge for the top price of 1150gns.

The reserve, a ewe lamb from TA Blair, Thornton, Cleveleys, realised 700gns.

The consignment of pedigree Suffolks from J and C Airey, Ulverston, saw a top of 650gns for a Limestone Rocket-sired gimmer carrying twins to Forkins Formula One. They also sold two in-lamb gimmers at 600gns each.

Best from Roy Hiddleston, Dumfries, was a 650gns sale for a Rookery Perfection-sired gimmer carrying twins to Rookery Rooney, with others to 580gns from the Irongray flock

In lamb Suffolk ewes averaged £531.60, with gimmers at £394.03 and ewe lambs at £294.

Charollais peaked at 500gns for a ewe from the annual consignment from John Stott, Crosscrake. She is by a Kirkhouse sire and sold due with triplets to Toby Norman.Mr Stott also sold two ewes at 480gns each with both carrying twins.

Charollais gimmers carrying Beltex cross lambs from RJ and J Towers of Ingleton, sold to 450gns and 400gns. Charollais ewes averaged £415.50 with gimmers at £379.62.

Pedigree Texels twice sold to a top of 450gns twice from R Wilson, Appleby of the Eden Valley flock.
