There was an increased demand for Zwartbles sheep this year, with a top price of 2000gns at the breed’s in-lamb show and sale of 132 females at Borderway Market, at Carlisle.
Hayberries Greendream took the top spot for Peter and Susan Addison, Hayberries, Mickleton, Barnard Castle, Co Durham, when she headed north, to Inverness with the Bissett family to Evanton, by Dingwall, Inverness. This 10-month-old ewe lamb is out of a great line of show stars, sired by Greenhill Blakeney, reserve male champion at the Great Yorkshire in 2014, and her dam, Hayberries Elitebeaut, won reserve champion at the same show just last year.
The reserve supreme champion from the same home went on to sell for 1000gns to the L and J Sharp, Drum Temple Croft, Gorthleck, Inverness. The two-year-old gimmer, Hayberries Fox Fire, is a daughter of Hayberries Ennistymon and out of Aquila Cutie Pie, which goes back to Aquila Blueprint. She is scanned to have three to Stewarton Fantastic.
The best from the Clarewood pen stayed local, heading to Cumbria with Messrs Bateman Lowgill, Kendal, for 1750gns for her breeders, Thomas and Charlotte Critchley, Mercer, Grange Lane, Hutton, Lancs.
Clarewood Foxy Lady has been successfully shown this year and last, and has now scanned to have one to Wallacetown Fulmar. She is a daughter of Clarewood Don and out of Clarewood All Star.
Three took the 1000gns cheque home with the first being a gimmer from AJ Thorburn, Holmlea, North Road, Lowertown, Annan, Dumfries-shire, which sold to CMJ Hurd, Whitefield, Wiveliscombe, Taunton, Somerset. Holmlea Fudge is a daughter of Holmlea Count and out of Holmlea Camila-Wicked, which goes back to Holmlea Winning Glory. She is in-lamb to Holmlea Ed.
Another on the same money was the supreme champion, a ewe lamb from F and L Brown, Hollands, Caerlaverock, Dumfries. Stainmore Gucci sold to H and B Gibson, Gartocharn, Alexandria, Dunbartonshire. She is sired by Wallacetown Ego and is out of Stainmore Annabel.
