Carlisle

A PACKED ringside of breeders and enthusiasts was forward for Harrison and Hetherington’s sale of unregistered pure-bred Limousins where prices peaked at 6500gns for a young bull from Procters Farm, Slaidburn.

The event, which included bulls ranging from 8-24months, heifers and recipients with pure-bred Limousin calves, also saw an eight-month-old bull calf from Messrs Nixon, Hunters Hall, make 5000gns.

Ian Handley’s Gunnerfleet herd from Ingleton, topped the bulling heifers and recipients with calves at 4000gns in both sections.

Bulls averaged £4987.50; heifers at £2003.33 and recipients with calves at £2821.87.

Commercial breeding cattle sold the same day were topped at £2250 by a Limousin cross heifer with heifer calf from Turner Farm, Honely.

Bulling heifers peaked at £1450 again for a Limousin cross from Messrs Wilson, Hardrigg Hall, Skelton.

The firm’s weekly sale of store and weaned cattle was topped at £1185 by a Limousin cross steer from Messrs Bowman, Croft House, Penrith.

Heifers sold to £1120 for a Limousin from Messrs Slack, Newby, Carlisle.

On Monday, the firm’s weekly sale of store sheep peaked at £94 for Texel ewe lambs from F Little.

United Auctions sold 606 store cattle and 176 cast cows at their weekly sale where bullocks and heifers averaged 195.80p and 188.45p respectively.

Charolais crosses led the way amongst the bullocks at 243.50p for a 306kg entry from Barharrow, and £1240 for a 660kg bullock from Little Auchengibbert.

Heifers sold to 239.50p for a 339kg Limousin cross from Sheilhill, and to £1120 for a 559kg Charolais cross from Berryhill.

Also forward were 7372 store and feeding sheep where Beltex from Crofthead led the way at £88.

Thainstone

Bullocks led the way at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 587 store cattle, 32 young calves and 114 breeding cattle.

They sold to 306p for a 232kg Limousin cross from Meikle Geddes, Nairn, and £1330 for a 700kg Simmental cross from Blackhillock, Keith.

Heifers peaked at 253.8p for 264kg Limousin crosses from Balmadies, Forfar, and £1290 for a 668kg Charolais cross from North Crannoch, Grange.

Bullocks and heifers averaged 206.9p and 205.1p respectively.

Entries from Upper Forgie, Keith topped the breeding entries with a Simmental cross cow with heifer calf and an in-calf Limousin cross heifer both selling for £1800 each.

The 4369 store lambs, island sheep and breeding sheep, sold to £230 on two occasions for a Charollais shearling and Beltex cross shearling both from Newton of Crathie.

The entry of 46 store cattle and 465 sheep from Orkney consignors was topped at 216p per kg for a 500kg Charolais bullock from L Muir, Upper Onston and £1200 for a pair of 564kg Limousins from I Donaldson and Co, Redland, Stromness.

Heifers sold to 237.7p for a 450kg Limousin from KD Eunson, Braebuster, Deerness and £1190 for a 598kg entry from Redland.

Beltex lambs from Strathore, Shapinsay and Texels from E Eunson, Halley, Deerness topped the sheep at £81.
