Carlisle butchers R and JP Mulholland, Great Orton, bought the champion and reserve prime cattle at Harrison and Hetherington's Christmas Show and sale which saw 92 head of steers and heifers forward.

Supreme was a 634kg Limousin cross heifer by a Liscon sire from Messrs Grainger, Kiln Close, Wigton. She was bought at a Carlisle in March from Messrs Scott, Thirlwall Castle and sold for 520p per kg or £3296.80.

A 697kg British Blue cross steer from Askham Bryan College, Newton Rigg, Penrith, took the reserve and later went on to sell for 300p or £2091.

Centre records are believed to have been broken amongst the sheep too when the first prize single lamb, a Beltex cross from Messrs Priestley, Cracrop, sold at £550 or £12.22 per kg to the judge, Morgan Helliwell, Rochdale who also bought the champion and reserve lambs.

Cracrop also bagged the reserve honours with a pen of Texel lambs that sold at £115 per head.

The champion pen, Dutch Texels from E and I Hall and Son, New Houses, Hexham, realised £165.
