The highest sheep turnover in more than 50 years was witnessed at Caledonian Marts' Martinmas show and sale of store lambs and feeding ewes at Stirling on Monday, which attracted a catalogued entry of 9000 sheep to include 2000 from the islands and mainland Argyll.

Beltex lambs led the way taking both the champion and the reserve honours, with the best, a pen of 60 from M Kennedy, Lurgan, Aberfeldy, selling for £110 per head to Robert Atikinson, Bell Hill, while the reserve, from Robin Hardie, Parkhead, Linlithgow, made £96 to John MacTaggart, Castle Douglas.
