They soon whittled the entry of more than 200 head – comprising 91 prime bullocks, heifers and young bulls and 149 OTM cattle – down to size, finding their supreme in a 580kg Limousin bullock from Craig and Treen Malone, Pitcairn, Cardenden, which they later bought for 300p per kg or £1740.

The reserve and best opposite sex was a Limousin heifer from W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw, Broxburn, which came in at 588kg and also sold for 300p per kg or £1764 to B and T Kitson and Sons, Butchers, Yarm, North Yorkshire.

Young bulls sold to 190p per kg and £1463 for a Limousin from W Dick and Sons, Mains of Throsk.
