Gimmers from Albert and George Howie’s Knock pen met a flying trade at the Select Seven Sale of females at Lanark, last Saturday, with the pair producing three out of the top four prices in the ring and achieving a cracking average of £8940 for seven.

Topping the trade at 20,000gns was a Knock gimmer, sired by Allanfauld Am The Man and out of a Tophill Wall St-sired dam, which is also a sister to the 15,000 Knock Yardsman.

On her first outing, she was sold in-lamb to Sportsmans Chieftain and was purchased by Hugh and Alan Blackwood, for their Auldhouseburn flock, based at Muirkirk, Ayrshire.

The second top price of the day, at 15,000gns, was another from Knock, which also headed home to Auldhouseburn.

This February, 2018-born gimmer is another by Allanfauld Am The Man and out of a Sportsmans Supreme daughter. She was again in-lamb to the service sire, Sportsmans Chieftain.

Allan Cullen, Craighead, Carluke, got a personal best of 13,000gns from Myfyr Evans, Rhaeadr, for his best gimmer. Sired by Hartside All Star and out of a dam by Tullagh Saracen, she was in-lamb to the home-bred Craighead Crusader.

Another gimmer from the Howies was bid to 11,000gns. Again by Allanfauld Am The Man, she is out of a Tophill Wall St-sired dam and was sold carrying to Sportsmans Chieftain. Buying back some of their own genetics, she was jointly purchased by Archie and John MacGregor, Allanfauld, and Neil and Stuart Barclay, Harestone.

Blackface sheep breeder, David Morrison, Dalwyne, paid 7000gns for a gimmer from the Clark family's Teiglum flock, Lesmahagow. Sired by Ettrick Yom Kippur, she is out of a Teiglum Windfall-sired ewe, which is a full sister to the 70,000gns Teiglum Young Gun.

This gimmer is also a full sister to 24,000gns Teiglum Braveheart – with an index in the top 10% of the breed – and is a maternal sister to the reserve champion gimmer at this year’s Great Yorkshire Show.

Close behind, at 6500gns, was another Knock gimmer, bought by the Morgan family, Blaencar, Sennybridge. She is ET-bred by Allanfauld Am The Man and out of a Tophill Wall St-sired ewe – again she's carrying to Sportsmans Chieftain.

Taken to 5500gns was a gimmer from Auldhouseburn. Sired by the 125,000gns Sportsmans A Star and out of a dam by Garngour Vodka, she sold in-lamb to Auldhouseburn Corky. Purchasing her was the McCollam family, for the Carmavy flock, Northern Ireland.

Gordon Gray, Ettrick, sold his best for 5000gns for a gimmer by Hartside All Stat, out of a Sportsmans Unimog daughter. She sold carrying to Brackenridge Commander and was knocked down to David MacArthur, Biggar, for use in his Daer flock.
