The first sale of the year for Hope's Auctioneers' saw a sharper trade all round for the 111 store cattle forward.

Topping the trade was a Limousin heifer from Messrs Fawcett, Pond Farm, which realised £1155. The same home also sold the lead price bullock, a Charolais which made £1095.

Limousin and Simmental crosses triumphed at United Auctions' opening sale of 615 store cattle, where bullocks and heifers averaged 214.8p and 205.2p respectively.

Bullocks peaked at 273p per kg for Limousin crosses from Clinterty, Fraserburgh, and to £1340 for Simmental crosses from Allaloth, Clochan.

Heifers were topped at 260p for Limousin crosses from Badentoul, Fordyce, and £1400 for Simmental crosses again from Allaloth, Clochan.

A Limousin cross steer from Lough Green led the way at £1175, whilst heifers peaked at £1055 for more of the same from Colwell Demesne.

A mixed entry of cast sheep met a strong trade topping at £133 for eight Texel cross ewes from W and JA Longlands.

Beltex crosses led the way in the store lambs selling for £94 from JJ and JM Sanders.
