The ring was packed to the brim for the retiral sale of Alan and Lorna Jackson's Rugley Texel flock from Alnwick, staged at Borderway Mart, Carlisle.

The sale of this high index flock – established in 1992 – excluded 14 ewes that were being retained by daughter Lucy, who is taking over the tenancy of the farm, with the remainder selling to a top of 2000gns for a Cambwell Trademark-sired gimmer. She is bred from a Beeford Warrior ewe and sold in lamb to Corriecravie Benchmark, to Aberdeenshire breeders, Messrs Smith, Glenkindie, Alford, who bought several of the top priced lots, including another gimmer at 800gns by Rugley Adonis due to Benchmark

Top price amongst the ewes was 1600gns paid by Neil Crighton, buying for his Loanend flock from Berwick-upon Tweed. This three-year-old by Hightecs Yorick, out of a ewe by Avon Vale Real Deal, also sold due to Benchmark.

Mr Crighton went to 900gns for the next lot in too, a similarly aged and bred ewe, served by Mullan Chancellor.

John Elliot who manages the Gordon Brooke Estate, at Earlston, forked out 1000gns for a four-year-old ewe by Beeford Warrior bred from a Rugley Ultimate daughter and due to Chancellor.
