William and Tom Nelson's Kilphin flock from Ballantrae, led the way at the Border Leicester in-lamb show and sale at Carlisle, taking the overall championship and the top price of 1600gns with a ewe hogg.

The sale leader is a daughter of Alticane Donald – a £3600 purchase three years ago – and out of a ewe by Intock Sandy that bred a former champion at the Royal Highland Show. Backing his decision, she sold to the judge, Allan Grant from Kilrenny, Fife.

The third prize ewe hogg from the same home was bred the same way and made 600gns selling to Messrs Penny, Larne, Co Antrim, Northern Ireland.

Taking the blue and white sash and second top price of 1500gns, was the first prize gimmer from Sandy and Alec Watson's Intock flock from, Culticheldoch Farm Cottage, Muthill, Crieff. A daughter of the top breeding Eildon Rob Roy, she is out of a home-bred ewe that was inter-breed champion at Fife Show and bred the 2016 Royal Highland Show champion. She sold scanned to have a single lamb to Drennan's Dazzler and headed home with FR and AL Lyth, Lealholm, Whitby, North Yorkshire.

Another of the same breeding and from the same home realised 1450gns to Stewart Lathangie, Pyeston, Glenrothes, Fife. Third in her class she also sold due to Dazzler and scanned for twins.

The Watsons also took 850gns for a gimmer, from RD Livestock, Tern Hill, Market Drayton, Shropshire. She is by Drennan's Dazzler, out of a former first prize gimmer at the Royal Highland Show, and sold due to Didcot Diamond carrying a single.
