Peter Baul’s Ravensgate pedigree herd took both the champion and reserve honours with newly calved heifers at Craven Auction Mart's fortnightly show and sale at Skipton.

Ravensgate Symion Muscome 128, a 20 day-calved 28-litre heifer, took the top honours. She is by the Cogent sire, Snowbiz Symion, out of a Woodmarsh Topshot cow and went on to realise £2400 to Brian Blezard, of Ribchester.

Mr Baul’s reserve champion, Ravensgate Elias Muscome 124, by Shanael Elias, arrived 24 days calved and also giving 28litres. She sold for the second top price of £2300, again to Mr Blezard.

The third prize newly calved heifer, from Cowling’s Chris Bell, of the Mireclose pedigree Holstein herd, was paraded three weeks fresh and giving 27litres. She made £1700.

The seven milkers on parade saw pedigree heifers average £2133.

A good show of 54 dairy-bred rearing calves, with British Blue-cross bulls leading the way when averaging £325 per head, sold to £445 from Gargrave’s Colin Whitelock.
