Huntly

United Auctions’ sale of 2238 prime sheep, saw old season lambs cash in at 209.83p per kg selling to 241p for 39kg Beltex from Sheep Park, Bridge of Marnoch.

Top price per head was £116 paid for 64kg Texels from Smallburn Farms, Elgin.

Ewes met a strong demand peaking at £175 for Texels from Parrock, Rothiemay.

Dumfries

Trade remained buoyant at C and D Auction Marts’ weekly sale of prime sheep where an SQQ of 213.1p per kg was achieved.

The 1011 head sold to 265p per kg from Carnavel, and £102.50 from Bankswood and Inglestone.

Cast ewes and rams sold to £139.50 for Texels from Bankswood, with rams to £108.50 for another Texel from Pinclanty.

Prime cattle sold to 218p from J Jardine, Yett with OTM to £1249.50 and 173p per kg for a Simmental from Dalmakethar.

Forfar

Limousins from Nethermyres secured three of the top four highest prices at Lawrie and Symington’s sale of 26 prime cattle.

The firm sold the top priced heifer per kg and per head at 248p and £1455.76 with a 587kg entry. Nethermyres also sold the lead priced bullock per head at £1427.76 with a 661kg Limousin.

Top priced bullock per kg at 231p was a 592kg Limousin from Gask.

A small entry of six cast cows sold to £1050 and 1.22p per kg for a Simmental from Whitehall.

Beltex topped the 881 prime hoggs selling to 240p from Balbrydie and £105 from Milton of Durries, to average 201.3p per kg with an SQQ of 205.2p.

A Texel from Cairnleith topped the entry of 195 ewes and rams at £130.

Thainstone

A larger show of 4044 prime and cast sheep was forward for Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ weekly sale, which saw old season lambs level at 208p per kg or £95.17 per head.

Top price in this section was £119 per head for Beltex crosses from Messrs Lawson, Huntly Lodge, Huntly or 285.7p for Beltex from S Wood, Woolhillock, Skene.

Cast ewes and rams were slightly easier on the week selling to £183 for Texels from Dow Livestock Ltd. Upper Sauchen, with the1158 ewes averaging £78.28 per head.

Rams sold to £140 for Texels from Seafield House, Lerwick.

Prime bullocks (7) averaged 205p (+6.1p) having sold to 216p per kg for a 570kg Limousin from Waterside of Forbes, Alford, and £1430.80 for a 730kg Limousin from Auchenbreddie, Insch.

Heifers (26) averaged 205.1p (+3.7p) peaking at 236p for a 540kg Limousin and £1403.60 for a 605kg Limousin from Lethendry, Cromdale.

The 10 young bulls sold to183p per kg for a 650kg Limousinj from Veltigar, Tankerness, and £1593.10 for a 890kg Limousin from Cocklarachy, Huntly, to average 148.5p.

Cast cows improved on the week with 144 beef types at 130.7p (+2.5p) and six dairy at 105p (+7.3p). Top prices were 202.4p for a 615kg Limousin from Towiemore, Keith and £1390 for a 900kg Salers from Hilton of Culsh, New Deer. Dairy sold to 119.9p and £935 for a British Friesian from 4 Sibster, Wick.

Bulls averaged 120p having sold to 140.3p for a 1005kg Limousin from Cocklarachy, Huntly, and £1630 for a 1310kg Charolais from Chapelpark. Methlick.

Newton Stewart

Some 1324 prime and cast sheep were forward at Craig Wilson Marts’ weekly sale, where all classes met a steady trade.

The 1163 hoggs averaged 208.1p per kg, with a top of £107 being achieved by a Beltex hogg from R Templeton, Carslae.

Blackface hoggs levelled at 207.3p per kg selling to £92.50 from J and W Wilson, Kirkmabreck and to 208.6p per kg from CS McClymont, Cuil.

Cast ewes saw a slightly reduced trade on the week, with prices peaking at £98.50 for Suffolk ewes from R and D Wilson, High Barness, who also topped the Mules at £85.50.

Leading the cast ram trade at £90 were Lleyns from R Paterson, Kiltersan.

Stirling (Cale)

All classes met a strong demand at Caledonian Marts’ sale of 196 prime cattle and 1413 prime hoggets, ewes and tups.

Prime bullocks reached 238p per kg for a Limousin from D Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie and £1435 for another of the same breed from W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw.

Heifers peaked at 235p per kg for a Limousin from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, Muthill and to £1494 for the same animal.

On Tuesday, the firm sold 1413 prime hoggs, ewes and rams.

The 1101 hoggs achieved the best trade of the season selling to £122 for a 58kg Beltex from WM Bell and Son, Craigend.

The same home also produced the lead price per kg at 279p for a 43kg Beltex cross hogg. The overall sale average was 222p.

The 354 heavy hoggets (45.5kg+) averaged £106.65 (+£8.73 on the week).

Stirling (UA)

Some 4977 prime sheep to include 3678 hoggs and 1299 ewes and rams, met a steady trade at United Auctions’ sale.

Hoggs averaged 210.66p per kg, having sold to £126 for Texels from Elmscleugh and to 273.00p per kg for Beltex from Isle Cottage.

Ewes hit a top price of £160 for Texels from Westhall.

Texels also led the way amongst the tups selling to £124 from West Lethan.

Longtown

A massive show of 6865 sheep comprising of 4674 prime hoggs and 2191 cast ewes and rams forward for C and D Auction Marts’ sale included a small entry of cattle.

Top price here was 125p per kg achieved by a Limousin shown by Messrs Baxter, Moss Side, Hethersgill, who also sold Charolais cows to 114p per kg.

Hoggs easily maintained the high rates of previous weeks, achieving an overall average of 210.1p per kg.

Export Beltex hoggs topped the trade at 330p per kg for J Watson and Co., Bowsden Moor, Berwick

Heavy hoggs met an improved trade selling to £132 for Beltex from CJ Roots, Kilnford Croft, Dumfries. Light hoggs were topped at £86 for 26kg Beltex, again from Bowsden Moor.

Ayr

A flying trade was seen at Craig Wilson’s sale of 1444 sheep, comprising 1217 prime hoggets and 227 cast sheep, resulting in an SQQ of 218.9p per kg.

A top price of £107 or 254.8p per kg was achieved by a pair of Beltex from W and A Watson, Muir Farm.

Mule hoggets peaked at £97 for a pen of 33 from Garpel Farms, and Blackfaces were topped at £91 from James Murdoch and Son, Knockdon.

The SQQ was 218.9p.

Cast sheep peaked at £176 for Texel ewes from J and E Paterson, Oxenshaw, with rams to £117 for more of the same from M Howard, Windyhall.

On Tuesday, the firm’s rough sale saw nine bulls average 107.6p per kg which sold to £1200 or 128.3p per kg for an Angus from Barnahill.

Cast cows saw the 57 beef types average 128.7p, selling to £1390 or 179.4p for a Limousin from Girvan Mains. The 64 dairy cattle levelled at 98.6p peaking at £920 for a Friesian from Grougar Mains or 117.7p for a Friesian from Mossend, Kirkmichael.

The small entry of seven clean averaged 140p per kg having sold to £1000 for a Belgian Blue from Meikle Heateth and 172.4p for the same animal.

St Boswells

On Monday, Harrison and Hetherington held their weekly primestock sale which included 59 clean cattle, 43 cast cows, 1369 hoggs and 544 ewes, at St Boswells.

Bullocks levelled at 211p per kg (+10p) with heifers at 213p (-9p).

Top price per head was £1427.50 from Upper Nisbet, while Penston produced the lead price per kg at 246p.

Cast cattle met the best trade of the week, averaging at 141p per kg (+11p) with a top price of £1417 for a bull from Blinkbonny while cows sold to £1304.68 from Mosstower and 185p per kg from Upper Nisbet.

Hoggs balanced out at 217p per kg (+1p ) having sold to £123 for Texels from Kedzlie, and 279.5p per kg for Beltex hoggs from Crookston.

Ewes met a steady trade, levelling at £74.57 and selling to £127 for Suffolks from Waterside. Heavy ewes averaged £100 with lights at £69.

Lanark

Top price at Lawrie and Symington’s sale of 1986 prime hoggs at Lanark on Monday was £125 and 284p per kg paid for Texels from Messrs Struthers, Collielaw.

The overall average was 205p per kg, with the SQQ levelling at 208p.

The 1533 cast ewes were topped by Texels at £185 from Smyllum with Blackies to £75 from Barr, Hallhill.

A strong show of cattle comprising 52 bullocks and heifers and 95 cast cows and bulls, saw clean cattle sell to 246p per kg for heifers from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie. Bullocks sold to 232p from Messrs Teague, Buiteland.

Greenshields produced the top prices per head with heifers to £1527 and bullocks to £1518.

Cattle from Muirburn topped the cast trade at 139p per kg and £1215 per head.

Dingwall

On Tuesday, Dingwall and Highland Marts sold 36 prime cattle, where bullocks sold to 223.0p per kg for a 555kg Charolais cross from Easter Sheeppark, Balblair and £1308.10 for a 635kg Charolais cross from Torgormack, Beauly.

Prime heifers cashed in at 209.6p (+8.6p). They were topped at 219.0p per kg for a 580kg Limousin cross from Easter Sheeppark and for a 535kg Limousin cross from Kinchyle Farm, Inverness. Top price per head was £1370.00 for a 685kg Limousin cross from Groam Farm, Kirkhill.

A strong show of 1019 prime sheep was also forward, and saw classes sell well.

Old season lambs balanced out at 217.4p (+6.4p) having sold to 229.3p per kg for a pen of 41kg Texel crosses from 8 Englishtonmuir, Bunchrew and £102.50 for 51.5kg Suffolk crosses from Ankerville, Nigg Station.

Castle Douglas

All classes of sheep were sharper on the week at Wallets Marts’ sale on Tuesday where an SQQ of 226.1p per kg was achieved for 223 head out of the 1440 prime hoggs forward.

Top price per head was £118 paid for Suffolks from Messrs Porteous, Lower Ardmannoch, while lead price per kg was 263.2p for Texels from Messrs Veitch, Low Creoch, Gatehouse of Fleet.

The 252 Blackface hoggs averaged 222.76p having sold to £101 for 44kg entries from Messrs Ramsay, Milnmark and 233.8p for a 40kg pen from the same home.

Cast sheep peaked at £155 for Texel ewes from Shennanton, Kirkcowan.
