Veteran breeder, Andrew Mylius, had a field day in the small but selective show of Lincoln Reds, winning the championship for the third year in succession and also selling the top priced bull at 7500gns.

Mr Mylius, who runs pedigree herds of Aberdeen-Angus and Lincoln Reds at St Fort, Newport-on-Tay, also topped the females at 3500gns.

Sale leader was St Fort Xcel, a rising two-year-old homozygous polled bull by the Whitehouse Robin son, St Fort Uproar. Fourth in his class at the pre-sale show, he is the last bull calf sold from the bought in Harrington Lala, a Manor Frank daughter, and sold to South Ormsby Estate, South Orsmby Hall, Louth, Lincs.

The same home – with the Retties freelance team at the helm – also produced a 5000gns sale in the shape of the December, 2017-born St Fort Wessex, an ET-bred bull and the result of a flush from the Whitehouse Donald-sired former show heifer, St Fort Hetty.

The sire is show bull, Biddlesden Great Expectations, which is a former champion at the Great Yorkshire and best bull at the Royal Show. Wessex was knocked down to Scafell Genetics, Gosforth, having stood fifth.

Local producer, Mark Donald, Rhynaclach, Port of Menteith, bought the reserve female champion at 3500gns from Mr Mylius. This was St Fort Northolm, a 23-month-old heifer backed by home-bred genetics on both sides. The sire is the St Fort Pole Star son, St Fort Timber, while the dam is St Fort Northolm, a Beverley Noble daughter from the Northolm family which dates back 50 years at St Fort.

Robert Morris, Over Buttergask, Coupar Angus, bought the champion, St Fort Elspeth, a similarly aged heifer also by Timber, for 2500gns.
