Bullocks topped at 276.60p for a 394kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Ellemford, and to £1330 for a 672kg Charolais cross from Gateside.

Limousin crosses led the way among the heifers, selling to 250p from West Muirhouse, and to £1320 from Lower Greenyards.

Also forward were 855 store and feeding sheep, where trade peaked at £86 for Suffolk hoggs from Ardbheinn.

Carlisle

All classes met an exceptionally strong trade at Harrison and Hetherington's weekly sale of more 1000 cattle, comprising of 700 catalogued store cattle and un-entered store bulls and weanlings, 268 calves and 131 Dairy.

Leading the way among the store cattle was a Charolais cross steer from Messrs Udale, Sideways Bank, Penrith, who attained £1250.

Heifers were again very easy to sell and peaked at £1240 on two occasions, firstly from Messrs Udale, Sideways Bank, for a Charolais cross and secondly by a Limousin cross from Messrs Mason, Bank Farm, Penrith.

British Blue heifers from Messrs Sherwen, Tarn How, Seascale, triumphed among the weaned cattle, selling to £1035.

On the same day, the firm also had 267 calves forward. Top price of £465 was attained by a British Friesian calf from Messrs Hogg, Whitehead Hill, Cumwhitton, Brampton.

The weekly sale of store sheep at Borderway on Monday saw a massive jump on the week with the overall average up at £80.66 and all sheep selling with ease.

Top price of the day was a Beltex hogg from Messrs Mattinson, Burthwaite, Keswick, that sold for £114. Following the store sheep was a select run of in lamb ewes and gimmers which realised £182 for Texel cross ewes from Messrs Ritson, Triermain, Gilsland.

Whilst top pence per kg of 265p was attained by a Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Grieve, The Lee. Bullocks and heifers sold to average at 224.2p and 212.6p respectively.

All types of store hoggs were in high demand, but it was Texels from Lower Ashtrees that took the top price of the day at £94.

Bullocks led the way at Aberdeen and Northern Marts sale of 991 store cattle, 83 breeding cattle and four young bulls.

Bullocks (552) averaged 224.8p selling to 274.8p for 262kg Limousin crosses from Appieteen, Sandwick and to £1345 for 672kg of more of the same breed this time from Nether Minmore, Glenkindie.

A 494kg Simmental cross from Housebay Farms, Stronsay, topped the heifers (439) at 263.2p, whilst per head was topped at £1320 by 542kg Simmentals from Dundurcas Farm, Rothes, to level at 215.7p.

Breeding cattle (83) sold to £2450 for a Simmental bull from Rootfield, Muir of Ord.

The firm also sold 2138 grit ewes and store lambs, with all classes meeting a strong trade.

Store lambs (1490) peaked at £140 for Texels from Midtown of Buchromb, Dufftown, whilst grit ewes (69) sold to £136 for four-crop Mule ewe’s in lamb to Texel Hill of Muirden, Dunlugas.

Crosses were in demand at Aberdeen and Northern marts sale of 368 store and eight breeding cattle, where bullocks and heifers averaged 216.7p and 206.3p respectively.

Topping the bullocks at 261.1p was 383kg Charolais crosses from Messrs Sutherland, Sibmister, Castletown, and £1305 for

677kg Charolais crosses from JW Sinclair and Co, Clachan, Mid-Clyth.

Heifers peaked at 267p for a 352kg Limousin cross from GR and PH Sutherland Achunabust, Reay, and £1270 for a 700kg Simmental cross from RB Gunn, Wester Clyth, Occumster.

An in-calf Charolais cross cow led the way in the breeding cattle at £1050 for DG Mackay Achaguie, Scotscalder.

On the same day 745 store sheep were forward where feeding ewes and rams (139) topped at £120 twice, firstly for Cheviot ewes from Overton and again for Cheviot rams from Smiddyquoy, Watten.

More of the same breed topped the breeding sheep at £80 from Bracken View, Thrumster, whilst old season store lambs (571) sold to £106 for Texels from Seaview, Oldwick.

On Monday, Caledonian Marts had forward 328 store cattle, at their fortnightly sale, where Limousin bullocks led the way at 255p from Heads Farming Partnership and £1330 from W K Mitchell, Meikle Finnery, Gartocharn.

Bullocks and heifers averaged 206p and 202p respectively.

Among the heifers it was Limousins from G S Stewart, Wester Whin, Slamannan that topped at 219p and to £1030 for Simmentals from A and J Orr, Hill O’ Harthill, Harthill.

Black and Whites sold to 161p and £870 from W Baxter, Gryfeside, Kilmacolm.

Also forward were 814 store hoggs, feeding ewes and tups, which were topped for Texels from D MacGregor, Burnhead, at £101.

In-lamb ewes sold to £158 twice, firstly for Mule gimmers scanned to have twins and then for another due to have a single lamb, both from W Tait and Sons, Bulls Hill.

The fortnightly sale of store cattle at C and D Auction Marts sale saw 225 forward for a brisk trade throughout.

Bullocks topped at £1230 for British Blues from South Carthat, and to 260.3p for a Charolais from Cormaddie, whilst heifers peaked at £1200 for an Aberdeen-Angus from Horseholm, and to 236.9p for Limousins from Bankswood.

A strong sale of calves were also forward, which was topped by a Limousin from Ryes.

An opening sale of breeding sheep went off with a bang at Penrith and District Farmers Mart of in-lamb breeding sheep.

The sale included a dispersal on behalf of EA and W Strong, Ploveriggs, which saw 190 ewes and shearlings average £198.74.

Topping the sale at £236 was Texel in-lamb ewes which came from the dispersal.

Mule shearlings from JM and MA Dawson, Greystone House, sold to £155 scanned to have twins.
