All classes of store cattle were dearer on the year at Harrison and Hetherington's annual show and sale at Middleton in Teesdale, where prices peaked at £4200 for the champion, a Limousin cross heifer from JC and J White, Rigg Farm, Barnard Castle.
Their show stopper, a red heifer was bought by Messrs Mellin, Skipton.
The same home also produced the reserve overall in the second prize Limousin heifer which made £2300 to Messrs Geary, Milton Keynes and the champion bullock honours with a British Blue cross which made £1450 selling to the judge, Lin Pidsley.
Overall, Rigg Farm sold 40 calves to average £1390.31
The entry of 319 store cattle of which 95% were aged between eight and 10 months of age, saw heifers average £1005 (+£71) and steers £961 (+£30).
