All classes of cattle met a strong trade at Harrison and Hetherington's weekly sale of 1000+ head to include stores, weanlings and calves.

Top price was £1330 paid for a Limousin bullock from TT and JE Mason, Bank Farm, Penrith, whilst heifers peaked at £1185 from Ian Knight, Stephney, South West Cumbria.

Limousin heifers from Iain Graham, Rose Castle, topped weaned calves at £1225.

Young bulls were also led by Limousins when a pen of 16 11-month-old pure-breds from Messrs Cleasby, Lindon Housesold to £1100 to average £1024.

More than 400 store cattle were forward for Craig Wilson’s sale where bullocks and heifers averaged 217.5p and 208.1p respectively.

Top price was £1300 for a Limousin bullock from Laigh Borland and 266.7p for a Charolais bullock from Longhouse, Cumnock.

Limousins topped the heifer trade at £1240 from Laigh Borland and to 262.2p from Pinvalley.

The 686 store hoggs and breeding sheep which included the dispersal of in-lamb ewes from M Howard, Wingyhall, was topped at £142 and levelled at £137.50.

Store hoggs peaked at £109 for Texels from Messrs Reid, Cairnhill.

Limousin bullocks led the way at Craig Wilson’s sale of 136 store cattle, with bullocks and heifers averaging 214.7p and 214.2p respectively.

Top price was £1115 paid for Limousin bullocks from Larg, Newton Stewart, with more of the same topping the pence per kg section at 268.4p from Holm, Kirkcowan.

Charolais from Glenlea, Whauphill, topped the heifers per head at £1080, while Limousins from Holm, Kirkcowan, realised 251.8p.

Aberdeen and Northern Marts had forward 956 store cattle at their weekly sale, where bullocks (494) cashed in at 232.9p having sold to 288.2p for a pair of 340kg Charolais from Mains of Cairnborrow, Glass and to £1350 for 748kg Beef Shorthorns from Quarryhill, Aberchirder.

Charolais led the way in the heifers (450) selling to 285.2p for 398kg entries from Mains of Cairnborrow and £1290 for a 630kg Charolais from Biggings, Toab, to average 223.9p.

Aberdeen-Angus’ dominated amongst the bulls where a pen of four weighing in at 382kg sold to 209.4p while £970 was paid for a pen of five 476kg entries from Mains of Loanhead, Old Rayne, to balance out at 192.7p.

The same firm also sold 1406 grit ewes and store lambs including island consignments.

Grit ewes (92) sold to £138 for Texels from Upper Cuttlehill, Ruthven.

More of the same breed topped the ewe lambs (295) at £107 from Fairview, Halkirk.

SOME 800 store cattle were forward for Lawrie and Symington’s sale on Monday, where bullocks were topped at £1290 for a Limousin from Carmichael Farm or to 263.2p per kg for a Limousin from Drumbuie Farm, to level at 214.17p.

A Limousin from Brocklees Farm led the heifers at £1170 while 233.3p per kg was paid for a Limousin from Brownhill Farm, to average 208.6p.

Dairy bullocks sold to £940 for a British Friesian from Over Kypeside.

The fortnightly sale of in-lamb sheep and store hoggs, saw a fast trade for all categories.

In-lamb ewes topped at £138 for Texel cross gimmers with twins from Frame, Cronan, whilst Texel hoggs with lambs at foot peaked at £125 from Eastmains.

More of the same breed also topped the store hoggs, selling to £90.50 from Corehouse.

Cast cows sold to 145p for a Luing from Hillside, with a Simmental cross from the same home selling to £1132.45.
