The eagerly anticipated show of previous show winners took place on a wet and windy day, but that did not deter prospective buyers coming from far afield as Aberdeen and Somerset.

The Ruthin North Wales Potential sale again attracted a quality line-up and is amongst the most popular sale for those wishing to purchase show cattle, with a large number of proven show winners up for sale.

Receiving the highest price of the day, of £5000, was a six-month-old Limousin heifer from DJ Lloyd and Co, Cefn Barrach, a farming business which also topped the sale last year. This young heifer headed home with Phil and Sharon Sellers, of Lincoln.

With eight steers and 21 heifers ready to show their potential, it was James May, from Worcester, and Deiniol Hughes, from Anglesey, who had the difficult task in hand of judging the cattle.

The overall champion came from the same home as the sale topper – DJ Lloyd’s five-month-old heifer – and Mr May backed his decision by taking home this heifer for £3000.

The same home also bagged the prize for the reserve champion steer with a six-month-old Limousin, which later left the ring at a £1800 bid to Gareth Taylor, Bryn Glas, Anglesey

Another purchase of Mr Taylor was the reserve overall champion and leading steer which came from Dion Hughes, Ty Cerrig.

Having won the future showman class last year, Mr Hughes, of Corwen, won the future showman class again this year, with his three-month-old British Blue heifer going on to sell for £1800 purchased by MH Owens and Co, Glantre, Pont Sian.
