Two pairs of white call ducks attracted the joint top price of £900 at Harrison and Hetherington's annual spring sale of poultry, waterfowl, hatching eggs, equipment and pigs at Carlisle.
A catalogued entry of 1957 lots of poultry and waterfowl, 272 lots of hatching eggs and 68 items of equipment was presented to a large crowd of buyers, who saw the first pair of call ducks from M Hewertson, sell to Messrs Green from Wales. The second pair selling at £900 were consigned by RJ Bett and headed home with Messrs Roberts, Shropshire.
Large fowl sold to £500 for pair of Welsummers from DW Johnson, selling to Messrs Gray from Lanarkshire.
Another pair of white call ducks realised £450for J Pepper.
A trio of white Silkie bantams sold for £380 from Messrs Goodwin. Not far behind on £300 was a trio of Mottled Pekins from RJ Betts.
Hatching eggs sold to £120 for a dozen French Copper Marans and equipment topped at £190 for a coop.
Pigs were topped at £420 for a Pietrain boar from E Campbell which headed to Cumbria with Messrs Jordan.
