Bullocks sold to £1285 for a dairy-bred British Blue from Messrs Crowther, West Trailtrow, Lockerbie, whilst heifers peaked at £1160 for Limousins from Messrs Stagg, Longrow, Canonbie.

Weaned cattle peaked at £1500 for British Blue bulls from Kenneth Hall, Baggrah.

The 630 ewes and lambs forward sold to £130 for a Texel ewe with single lamb at foot from D Rust, Denton Crescent, Low Row.

Store sheep sold to £110 for Dutch Texel hoggs from Hind, Parkhead Farm, Bewcastle.

Bullocks produced the lead prices at United Auctions’ sale of 1526 store cattle and 71 cast cows, selling to 253.90p per kg for a 317kg Limousin cross from Nether Dalkeith, and to £1260 for a 654kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Victoria.

Bullocks (893) and heifers (533) averaged 215.54p and 212.26p respectively.

Charolais crosses topped both sections among the heifers (533) at 239.00p from Craigo, and to £1200 from Assloss.

Young bulls (35) peaked at 208.90p for a Hereford cross from Gateside, and to £1100 for a Simmental cross from Shawsmill, to level at 181.33p.

Mules topped the 1033 store and breeding sheep forward, selling to £144 for ewes from Invervack, whilst store hoggs peaked at £102 from Borland.

A plainer show was on offer at Craig Wilson’s sale of 610 store cattle sale, which met a buoyant trade.

Bullocks and heifers averaged 210.8p and 203.6p respectively.

Top price was £1275, paid for an Aberdeen-Angus bullock from Largievrechtan and 279.4p for Limousin bullocks from Little Airies.

Heifers peaked at £1260 for an Aberdeen-Angus from Linfairn and to 252.5p for a British Blue from Busbiehill.

Some 675 store and breeding sheep were topped at £119 for Suffolk store hoggs from Messrs Wilson, Balluskie. Breeding sheep sold to £107 for Blackface ewes from J Menzies, Holehouse, with more of the same topping the ewes and lambs at £70 from Messrs McCrone, Stroma.

On Tuesday, Lawrie and Symington sold 812 store cattle at their fortnightly sale, with bullocks and heifers averaging 217.4p and 210.1p respectively.

Bullocks were topped at £1285 for a Limousin from Carmichael Est, and to 265p for Charolais crosses from Calton Farm. Charolais crosses led the heifers at £1230 from The Law, and to 261p from Hattrick Farms.

Breeding sheep, cast ewes and store hoggs, were also forward and topped at £140 for two-crop Mules from South Stane.

Bluefaced Leicesters led the way among the feeding ewes at £130 from Edston, whilst store hoggs sold to £95 for Texels from Auldtoun.

All classes were sharper on the week at Aberdeen and Northern Marts sale of 1192 store cattle and young bulls.

Charolais crosses again dominated the bullocks (648), to level at 223p having sold to 278.5p from Glebe of Deisher, Boat of Garten and £1345 from South Mains of Auchreddie, Maud.

Heifers (528) were topped at 267.4p for Aberdeen-Angus from Viewfield, Lochhills, and £1300 for Simmental crosses from Shougle, Birnie, to average 219.5p.

The 16 bulls sold to 246.6p and £1095 for Salers crosses from Harestone, Crathes.

Almost 1200 sheep to include ewes with lambs, grit ewes and store lambs were also forward.

A larger show of 535 store cattle was forward for Wallets Marts’ sale, which met a buoyant demand.

Topping the trade at £1250 was a Limousin heifer from Little Larg, New Luce, and at 279.2p were Charolais heifers from Poldean, Moffat.

Poldean, also topped the pence per kg among the heifers with the same breed at 287.8p, whilst Simmentals from Hillside, Corsock, realised £1200.

Cast cows sold to £1249.44 for an Aberdeen-Angus from Trolane, Dalry, and to 158p for a Luing from Crofts, Kirkpatrick Durham.

On Tuesday, United Auctions sold 63 store cattle, where bullocks and heifers averaged £660.47 (+£14.18) and £660.50 (+£75.25) respectively.

Bullocks sold to £900 for 449kg Limousin crosses from J Jackson and Son, North Ardnaclach, and to 255p for 267kg entries of the same breed from I Campbell and Son, Aird Farm, Ardfern.

A 492kg Simmental cross from D Lewis, Drimnin Estate, topped the heifers at £900, while 245kg Limousin crosses also from I Campbell and Son, made 240.8p

Ewes averaged £60.28(+£37.55) with hoggs at £64.69(+£26.93).

Texel crosses topped the hoggs at £101 from Lusraganbeag, whilst Texel ewes from Barcaldine hit £140.
