Some 1491 prime and cast sheep were forward for Craig Wilson's sale, which saw prime hoggs meet a similar trade on the week to average 238.9p per kg.

Hoggs sold to £131 and 262.p for a Charollais from JG McMillan and Co, Over Airies.

Some 16 new season lambs averaged 247.8p or £115.69 having sold to £117 and 253.3p for Dorsets from M Walker, Barwinnock.

Cast sheep were the dearest seen at the centre, selling to £201 for Texels from KT Lochhead, St Ninnians Grove, with tups at £178 for more of the same from J McGowan, Old Hemp.

Forfar

A small entry of 33 prime cattle was forward for Lawrie and Symington's sale, where bullocks (6) and heifers (27) averaged 225p per kg and 233p respectively.

Bullocks sold to 237p for a 612kg Blonde from Nethermyres, and to £1651.68 for a 744kg Limousin from the Gask.

A 541kg Limousin from West Bog topped the heifers at 270p, whilst Gask sold a 643kg British Blue at £1504.62.

Prime hoggs (682) peaked at £135 for Texels from Torrax, and to 304p for Beltex from Balbrydie to average 241p, with an SQQ of 244p per kg (+5p).

Texels from Westhall, topped both the ewes and rams at £192 and £160 respectively.

Cockermouth

The weekly sale of primestock at Mitchell Livestock Centre saw the 69 cattle topped by Aberdeen-Angus steers from Messrs Crowe, Hall Santon, at £1509.30 and 193.50p, whilst Charolais from P and PI Walker, Beechcroft, led the heifers at 200p and £1330.

Cast cows sold to 162.5p and £1191.13 for a Limousin from G and T Tyson, East House.

The 1798 hoggs and 501 cast ewes and rams, were topped by a Texel ewe from Corney Hall at £250, with hoggs peaking at £186 for Beltex from Messrs Richardson, Low Garth, and to 360p for a Texel from A and D Smith, Kelmore Hills.

Cast rams sold to £170 for Beltex from Mayfield.

Penrith

Records were smashed at Penrith and District Farmers' Mart LLP, sale of 3655 prime hoggs and 2175 cast ewes and rams, where ewes averaged £132.43, up £21.50 on the week, from a top price of £236 for Texels from Tarn End.

Hoggs sold to £139 and 356p per kg was a 39kg Texel cross from W Gribbon and Co, Waterside. They averaged 295p with an SQQ of 252p.

Prime cattle sold to £1583.82 for an 18-month-old Charolais cross bull from Messrs Raine, Fog Close, with bulls averaging £1493.91.

A Limousin cross heifer from D Raine, Old Parks, topped the clean cattle at £1427.42 and 225.5p.

Stirling (Cale)

Limousins were in demand at Caledonian Marts sale of 94 bullocks, heifers and young bulls, 89 OTM cattle and 18 young calves and stirks.

Heifers sold to 262p on two occasions from A A and J Brand, Nethermyres, Auchtermuchty, and from DS and R C Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, Muthill, and to £1650 came from Nethermyres.

Bullocks peaked at 255p for a Limousin from W Dandie, Learielaw, Broxburn, and to £1694 for an Aberdeen-Angus from Ferguson Bros, Gillandersland, Linlithgow.

A Limousin from J McAdam, Callendoune, Helensburgh, topped the bulls at 205p, whilst J Burnett, Upper Spittalton, Blairdrummond, sold their best at £1893.

On Tuesday, the firm sold 758 prime hoggs, ewes and tups, where the overall average for 489 hoggs was 171.1p per kg (-70p on the week and -14p on the year).

Texels weighing 52kg from Rebecca Duncan, Lands of Drumhead, Balfron, sold to £116, whilst top per kg was 240p for Beltex from G Aitken, Cowdens Farm, Dunduff.

The 269 cast ewes and rams, sold to £96 for Texel ewes from AM Duncan, Easter Dullatur, Kilsyth, with rams to £90 for a Texel from Dexter Logan, Greenhead, Alva.

Stirling UA

United Auctions sold 6340 prime hoggs, to average 236.33p, at their weekly sale, which saw Doune Farms and West Park top the section at £149 and 310p per kg, respectively.

Ewes (2167) realised £264 for Texels from Achnaba, whilst more of the same topped the tups at £190 from Braeleny.

Longtown

A strong trade was witnessed at C and D Auction Marts' sale of 6189 prime hoggs which averaged 242.5p with an SQQ of 245.0p.

Top price per kg of 379p was attained by Beltex hoggs from T Holmes, Nutholm, Lockerbie, and £180 per head from CJ Roots, Kilnford Croft, Dumfries and CD Scott, Falla, Jedburgh.

Thainstone

Limousin crosses topped Aberdeen and Northern Mart's sale of 56 prime cattle.

Bullocks (12) averaged 178.6p and sold to 217p for a 585kg Limousin cross from Newton of Carnaveron, Alford and to £1333 for more of the same from Dorsell, Alford.

Heifers sold to 229p from Dorsell, and to £1345.50 from Auchmaliddie Mains, Maud, to level at 198.5p.

Young bulls averaged 146.5p and sold to 173p and £1236.95 for a 715kg Limousin from Turfhill, Auchtylair.

The prime sheep sale of the season saw 5272 old season lambs average 225.6p (-17.2p) having sold to 297.4p for 38kg Beltex from Sheep Park, Bridge of Marnoch and £155 for Texels from Brae, Kintor.

The 891 cast sheep peaked at £223 for Texels from Newton of Carnousie, Forglen.

Lanark

Lawrie and Symington had forward 158 cattle comprising of 85 bullocks and heifers, six young bulls and 67 cast cows and bulls.

Limousins topped the heifers at 260p from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, whilst bullocks peaked at 238p from Messrs Grey, Balqharrage, Lennoxtown. Only a handful of sheep were sold with just one buyer forward.

Hawes

On Tuesday Hawes Farmers Auction Mart sold 465 sheep comprising of 315 prime hoggs and 150 cast ewes and rams.

Continental prime hoggs were topped at £82 from CR Alderson and Son, with cast sheep selling to £130.

Carlisle

Harrison and Hetherington's weekly prime cattle sale on Monday, attracted larger numbers with Limousin heifers from Halfway Well, leading the trade at £1748 and 238.5p, whilst more of the same topped the bullocks at £1746 from Nealhouse, and 227.5p from High Aketon.

Bulls were topped by a 914kg Limousin bull at 185.5p and £1695 from Messrs Hutton, Setmabanning Farm and the 333 cast cows and bulls were topped by two British Blues from Messrs Telfer and Son, Newton High House, weighing 861kg and selling at 229.5p and 881kg at 213.5p.

A Texel ewe from Messrs Martin, Boggle Hall, topped the 1844 prime sheep at £140 while hoggs sold to £130 for Dutch Texels from Woodhouse, and to 235.5p on two occasions, both for Texels from Bodney.

St Boswells

On Monday, Harrison and Hetherington's prime sale saw bullocks (31) and heifers (74) averaged 212.33p (+4p) and 222p (+12p) per kg, respectively. The 62 cast cows averaged 126p (-9p).

Trade peaked at 245p on two occasions and £1499 all from Bee Edge.

Cows sold to £1547.10 from Upper Huntlywood and 201p from Wanton Walls.

Beltex topped both the 1423 hoggs which averaged 182.78p per kg at £122 from Waterside, and 250.6p from Threeburnford, with the 224 ewes averaging £93 and selling to £157 for Suffolk crosses from Tynehead.

Hawes

On Tuesday Hawes Farmers Auction Mart sold 465 sheep comprising of 315 prime hoggs and 150 cast ewes and rams.

Continental prime hoggs were topped at £82 from CR Alderson and Son, with cast sheep selling to £130.

Wooler

Ewes met another serious trade at Harrison and Hetherington's sale of prime sheep, reaching £213 for Texels from Kypie.

Whilst, prime hoggs attained £160 for Suffolk from Belmont Farm, and top pence per kg was 273.8p for Texels from Elwick.

Longtown

A strong trade was witnessed at C and D Auction Marts' sale of 9230 sheep comprising of 6189 prime hoggs and 3041 cast ewes and rams at their weekly sale.

A strong entry of cast cows with the majority being native bred, yet trade was sharp throughout. The sale topped at 129p for a Beef Shorthorn cow from JDM Thomson, Pilmuir, Hawick. Whitebred Shorthorns peaked at 123p from E Gray, Fallowlees, Morpeth. Top price per head at £861 came from Fallowlees.

The increased entry of 6189 prime hoggs matched last weeks extreme rates with an overall average of 242.5p (SQQ 245.0p).

Top price per kg of 379p was attained by Beltex hoggs from T Holmes, Nutholm, Lockerbie. Whilst Texel hoggs from peaked at £180 from CJ Roots, Kilnford Croft, Dumfries and CD Scott, Falla, Jedburgh.

Ayr

Trade remained strong for the 147 prime and cast cattle forward for Craig Wilson's sale on Tuesday, which saw 30 heifers average 229.8p

A joint top price of 244p was attained for a Limousin heifer from High Gameshill, and also for a Limousin bullock from Glendoune.

Heifers peaked at £1495 for a Limousin from Girvan Mains, with more of the same breed topping the bullocks at £1342 again from Glendoune.

Dingwall

Dingwall and Highland Marts sold 15 prime cattle on Tuesday where bullocks and heifers levelled at 213.4p (+11.2p) and 213.7p (+10.0p).

Bullocks sold to 227.0p for a 590kg Limousin cross from Ashley, North Kessock, and to £1384.50 for a 710kg Limousin cross from Craigroy, Dallas.

Limousin crosses led the heifers at 227.0p from Ashley, and to £1440.00 from Bridgend Farm, Dingwall.

The 800 prime sheep saw old season lambs (731) average 177.0p (-67.7p) having sold to 204.9p for 41kg Beltex crosses from Torgorm, Conon Bridge, and £90 twice for 54.50kg Texel crosses and 51.50kg Charollais crosses both from Greenlands, Arabella.

Feeding sheep (69) sold to £140 for a Suffolk cross and a Charollais cross ewe both from Greenlands, Arabella.
