Crosses were in demand at United Auctions' sale of 833 store cattle and 101 cast cows, which saw bullocks and heifers level at 214p and 207.39p respectively.

Bullocks (491) peaked at 245p per kg for a 367kg Limousin cross from Macherquhat, and to £1260 for a 630kg Simmental cross from Fernie Mill.

More Limousin crosses topped the bullocks at 265.8p weighing 380kg from Wester Mye, and to £1245 for a 612kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Glenduckie.

Young bulls averaged 183.87p and sold to 200.00p for a Limousin cross from Nether Dalkeith, and to £960 for an Aberdeen-Angus cross from Glenshochie.

Ayr

Bullocks led the trade at Craig Wilson's sale of 525 store cattle, attaining a top price of £1330 for Charolais bullocks from Rankinston, and to 267.2p for Aberdeen-Angus' from Mid Lugtonridge.

Bullocks (330) and heifers (176) sold to averaged 219.4p and 207.9p respectively.

Heifers reached £1325 which was paid for British Blues from Gass, Straiton, and to 245.4p for a Charolais from Holehouse, Ochiltree.

A small show of store sheep sold to £70.50 for Charollais hoggs from Messrs Vallance, Sunnyside, whilst Suffolk hoggs peaked at £54 from Craigneil.

Thainstone

Trade remained strong at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 1080 store cattle, including young bulls and calves.

Bullocks (625) averaged 221.2p selling to 301.7p for a 358kg Blonde D’Aquitaine cross from Maesquoy, Harray and to £1290 for a pen of four 638kg Limousin crosses from Overhall, Ruthven.

Heifers (461) cashed in at 220.9p reaching to a top of 391.8p per kg for and to £1340 for a 342kg Limousin cross from Newton of Budgate, Cawdor.

A 324kg Limousin bull from Pitcalzean, Nigg topped the pence per kilo at 223.8p while per head peaked at £975 for a 454kg Charolais from Kierfiold, Sandwick, to level at 200.7p, with young calves (five) making £500.

The firm also had 109 store old season lambs and 188 feeding ewes and rams forward.

Leading the way at £139 was Suffolk ewes from Davishill, Udny, whilst store lambs peaked at £72.50 for Texels from Twiness, Westray.

More than 350 store cattle were forward for Lawrie and Symington's weekly sale, which saw bullocks and heifers level at 220p per kg and 202.7p respectively.

Bullocks topped at £1345 for a Limousin cross from Linnhead, and to 259p for an Aberdeen-Angus from Woodlands, Carmichael, whilst heifers peaked at £1235 for a British Blue from Tinto View, and to 248.7p for a Limousin cross from Scrogton.

Hexham

A reduced catalogue of both cattle and sheep were forward for Hexham and Northern Marts' weekly store sale.

A catalogued entry of 207 store cattle were presented with the sale peaking at £1270 for a Charolais bullock at 18 months of age from Messrs Walker Bros, Satley, Co. Durham.

A British blue cross topped the heifers at £1190 from Adrian Hutchinson, Hollin Close, Allendale.

Cast ewes and rams sold to a better trade than expected, averaging £67.68 with nine active buyers in the ring. A top price of £110 was achieved on three occasions.

Firstly for Bluefaced Leicester ewes from TL Forster and Son, Lowes Fell, and Texel cross ewes from JR Lawson, Cresent Farm, took the other two spots at £110.

Considering the poorer prime hogg average nationwide, the store hoggs sold well, topping at £100 for Texel crosses from JD Straughan, Dalton Hill Head .

Aberdeen-Angus from Avielochan, Aviemore, topped the bullocks (403) at 283.3p, and then to £1270 for Limousin crosses from Upper Tillathrowie, Gartly

A mixed trade was witnessed at Caledonian Marts' sale of 179 native bred cattle, with bullocks and heifers averaging 209p per kg and 201p respectively.

Aberdeen-Angus dominated both sections among the bullocks at 242p from Argyll and Lochaber Estates, Kennacraig, Tarbert, and to £1040 from M Sibbald, Cowden, Dollar.

Heifers sold to 219p again for Aberdeen-Angus from Argyll and Lochaber Estates, Kennacraig, and to £1000 for more of the same breed from N Bowser, Argaty, Doune to average 201p per kilo.

Castle Douglas

On Monday, Wallets Marts' had forward 179 OTM and store cattle for their fortnightly sale.

Charolais bullocks topped at 286.2p from Messrs Davidson, Poldean, and to £1250 for Limousins from Messrs Sharp, Barscarrow, Sandhead.

Charolais from Messrs Davidson, Poldean, also triumphed in the heifers at 281p and top per head of £1155 was paid for Aberdeen-Angus from Messrs Robb, Trolane, Dalry.

A small show of OTM cattle sold to £834.90 from Messrs Taylor, Moss-side.

Messrs Glendinning's, Newfield, cattle dominated the heifers, firstly for an Aberdeen-Angus at £920, and then for an Aberdeen-Angus for 220p.
