Some 448 prime and cast sheep were sold through Craig Wilson, where 11 new season lambs sold to average 232.6p per kg.

Top price was £118 paid for a Texel from A and T Wilson, Baryerrock, and 244.2p twice, for a Beltex from F Allison, Glenstables, and a pair of Suffolks again from Baryerrock.

Old season lambs (290) cashed in at 192.8p and were topped at £103 for Beltex from A and J Wright, Pinmore Mains and to 221.1p for Blackfaces from J and W Wilson, Kirkmabreck.

Ewes were easier on the week selling to £127 for a Texel from Messrs Hair and Brewis, Drumdreddan, who also topped the rams with Texels at £115.

Forfar

Lawrie and Symington, had 36 clean cattle, five OTM and 417 prime sheep and cast ewes and rams at their weekly sale.

Bullocks (13) sold to 244p per kg and £1534.76 for a 629kg Limousin from Nethermyres, to average 209p.

Heifers (19) averaged 230p and reached 250p twice – for a 551kg Limousin from Nethermyres and a 579kg Limousin from West Bog, and to £1490.84 for a 611kg Limousin from the Gask.

New season lambs (53) peaked at 293p for a 43kg Charollais from Southfield and £128 for 49kg Texels from Newton of Guthrie and Upper Tulloes, to average 248p.

Ewes were topped at £136 for Texels from Alpin Cott, while rams sold to £112.50 for Texels from Midtown of Barras.

Dumfries

Just over 50 head of cattle were forward for C and D Auction Marts’ weekly sale, where a Limousin cross heifer from J Jardine, Yett, topped the clean cattle at 234p per kg.

OTMs peaked at £1020 for a Shorthorn bull from Wester Parkgate, and to 146p for a Limousin from Rigghead.

Prime hoggs were topped by Texels at £110 from Marr Farm, and 238p for Cheviots from Tinwald Shaws.

Cast ewes hit £120 for Texels from Newbarns.

Rams were topped by a Charollais from Bush of Craigs at £126.

Huntly

United Auctions sold 1159 prime sheep at their weekly sale, where new season lambs (44) sold to 242p per kg for a 46kg Texel from Meikle Begshill, Drumblade, and to £112 for 53kg Suffolk from Dunscroft, Huntly.

Old season lambs (725) achieved an SQQ of 216.32p, with a top price of 247p and £106 for 43kg Beltex from Auchbeg, Banff.

Ewes (346) sold to £122 for Texels from Auchairn.

Stirling (Cale)

Caledonian Marts had forward 139 cattle which included 56 OTM at their sale, where bullocks sold to 245p per kg and £1572 for a Limousin from W Dandie, Learielaw, Broxburn.

Heifers peaked at 232p for a Limousin from D Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canobie and to £1457 for a Limousin from J Collier, Dullomuir, Blairadam.

Bulls sold to 208p and £1285 for a Limousin from M Jack, Carriston, Star of Markinch.

OTM averaged 133p selling to 156p for an Aberdeen Angus from Carskiey Estate, Southend, Campbeltown and to £1230 for a Limousin from A Galbraith, Upper Kinniel, Linlithgow.

The sale of 664 prime sheep on Tuesday, saw spring lambs (72) sell to 305p per kg for a 42kg Beltex cross from HT Shanks, Easter Cash, Strathmiglo, and to £134 for Suffolk crosses from Easter Cash, to balance at 259.2p (-2.3p).

Prime hoggs peaked at 262p for a 39kg Beltex from RA Campbell and Sons, Meikle Seggie, and to £115 for 59kg Texels from JR MacGregor, Dyke Farm, with the overall average being 199p (+5.4p).

Clean sheep made £99 from Cowdens and 195p from Raecruick, whilst cast ewes (154) averaged £101.42 selling to £116 for eight Texels from HT Shanks, Easter Cash, Strathmiglo.

Stirling (UA)

New season lambs were topped at £120 and 273p per kg for Texels from Penston, to average 247.7p, at United Auctions’ sale.

The sale of 4083 prime sheep comprising of 285 spring lambs, 3184 prime hoggs and 614 ewes and rams, saw old season lambs topped by Beltex from Luckenburn, at £120.00 and 264p, to level at 210.26p.

Amongst the ewes Texels from Blinkbonny led at £181.00, whilst Texel tups from Braughty peaked at £125.00.

Thainstone

Aberdeen and Northern Marts had forward 60 prime cattle at their weekly sale, where bullocks (nine) averaged 186.3p (+5.3p) having sold to 204p per kg for a 595kg Limousin from Newton of Drum, Drumoak, and to £1244.60 for a 635kg entry from the same home.

Prime heifers (32) peaked at 229p and £1305.30 for a 570kg Limousin from Hillocks, Whiterashes, to level at 192.3p.

Young bulls (four) averaged 143.8p (+3p) having sold to 159p for a 765kg Limousin from Aikers, Tankerness, and to £1330 for a 1000kg Charolais from East Kincraigie, Lumphanan.

The sale of 3093 prime and feeding sheep saw new season lambs (93) level at 250.7p, with a top price of 279.1p per kg for 43kg Suffolks from Nether Beanshill, Milltimber and £123 for 45kg Charollais from Backhill of Thornton, Bourtie.

Old season lambs averaged 209.4p (+11p) having sold to 264.7p for 34kg Beltex from 4 Distillery Cottages, Kennethmont and to £125 for 76kg Texels from Clinterty, New Aberdour.

Feeding ewes and rams (583) sold to £137 for Texels from East Sandend, Cruden Bay.

St Boswells

Harrison and Hetherington held their weekly sale on Monday, which saw 83 clean cattle, 52 cast cows, 154 lambs, 1099 hoggs and 284 ewes, forward.

Bullocks (20) and heifers (58) averaged 211p per kg and 212p respectively, selling to 237p per kg from Penston and £1444 from Kedzlie.

Cast cows (52) averaged 140p having sold to 191p from Kedzlie and to £1360 from Kersknowe.

New season lambs averaged 260p and were topped at £124 for Suffolks from Whitsome and to 300p per kg for Texels from Birkenside.

Hoggs (1099) reached £139 for Texels from Roundabouts and 237.5p per kg for Texels from Waterside, to level at 203p (+15p).

Ewes were topped at £117 by Texels from Corsbie to average £79.21.

Lanark

More than 100 head of cattle comprising 41 bullocks and heifers and 73 cast cows were forward for Lawrie and Symington’s sale.

Top price per kg amongst the heifers was 252p paid for a Limousin from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie, or £1554 per head for a Limousin from Messrs Wainwright, Todhall, Cupar.

Bullocks peaked at 220p per kg for a Limousin from Castlehill Farms, Lockerbie, and to £1427 for another of the same breed from South Arnloss.

Spring lambs (44) were topped at £136 for Beltex from Messrs Hamilton, Mid Shawtonhill, and to 300p for Texels from Messrs Hamilton, Rowantreehill, to average 272p with an SQQ of 281p.

Hoggs (1505) peaked at £127 for Beltex from Messrs Thomson, Mid Tulloch and to 275p for Beltex from Messrs Clark, Wellheads, to level at 218p with an SQQ of 227p.

A large entry of 1130 cast ewes and rams saw trade reach £188 for Texels from Messrs Laird, Cambwell, whilst rams peaked at £121 for Texels from Newfield.

Ayr

Craig Wilson’s sale of 1634 sheep comprising 157 spring lambs, 1144 prime hoggs and 333 cast ewes on Monday saw lambs sell to £125 for a Texel from S McNaughton and Son, Fullshawwood, and to 302.4p per kg for Texels from WHM and W Sloan, Mull of Galloway, to average 260.1p.

Hoggs averaged 208.6p with a top of £110 paid for a Beltex from DA Russell, Whitehill, and to 240p for another Beltex from M Stevenson, Balcaimie.

Cast sheep were topped at £160 by a Texel ewe from D Smith, Ballochneil Cottage, with rams peaking at £131 for Texels from W Brown, Caprickhill.

On Tuesday, the firm sold 19 prime and cast cattle to a top of 232p or £1310.80 for a Limousin heifer from A Paxton, Auchleach, while bullocks made 193p for a Hereford from Burnton and to £1095.15 for Friesian from Messrs Smith, Mossblown.

Young bulls peaked at £1134 or 180p for a Simmental from L Quarm, Annick Lodge.

Dingwall

Some 10 prime cattle and 420 prime sheep were forward for Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale, where heifers (eight) averaged 201.3p and sold to 209.0p for a 510kg Charolais cross from Bridgend Farm, and to £1170.00 for a 585kg Limousin cross from Balnageith, Forres.

New season lambs (10) levelled at 211.5p per kg and sold to 218.8p and £105 for 48kg Charollais crosses from Murza, Wick, while old season types (392) peaked at 229.5p and £101 for 44kg Suffolk crosses from Torgorm, Conon Bridge, to cash in at 215.4p (-2.2p).

Feeding sheep (18) sold to £90 for a Texel cross ewe from 14 Airdens, Bonar Bridge, to average 216.7p (-3.5p).

Castle Douglas

Wallets Marts had forward 421 prime and cast sheep, where 45 spring lambs averaged 244.66p per kg with an SQQ of 250.99p.

Heavyweights sold to £115.50 for Texels from Messrs Fisher Merrick, Portpatrick or 260.2p for Texels from Messrs Watson, High Borgue.

Prime hoggs (172) peaked at £104.50 for Texels from Messrs Rae, Barcloy and to 236.3p for Texels from Messrs Marchant, Clonhie, to level at 200.0p with an SQQ of 215.8p.

Cast sheep (204) sold to £129 twice, for a Texel ram from Byrecroft and a Beltex ewe from Carsewalloch.
