A top price of £6000 was achieved at Caledonian Marts’ sale of 103 breeding cattle at Stirling on Monday, when a British Blue cross heifer with a Limousin cross calf at foot from John McAlister, West Thomaston, Banknock, sold to Brian Harper, Greenwells, California, Falkirk.
Second top price was £5200 paid by Gordon Cameron, Acharacle, Fort William, for a similarly bred outfit from Craig and Katreen Malone, Pitcairn.
The overall average for heifers with calves levelled at £3700, up £300 on the year.
A Limousin cross with a Limousin cross calf topped the cows with calves at £2200 for C Dick, Taylorton, Stirling, whilst bulling heifers sold to £1040 for Simmental cross heifers from TM Drummond, Low Barbeth, Stranraer.
