A new centre record price for Blackface ewe hoggs was achieved at Wallets Marts’ annual sale at Castle Douglas, when a pen of three from Ian Bond’s Glen flock from Gatehouse of Fleet, sold for £600 per head.

The hoggs which were brought out by Robert and Debbie McTaggart, sold to Alan Stewart, Co Antrim.

Next best was £320 per head paid for a pen of three from Jim and Fiona Burns, Craignell, New Galloway, purchased by P Turnbull, Whitby

Blackface ewe hoggs were well short of buyer’s requirements, with 481 averaging £149.09, up £25.29 on the year.

Cross-bred hoggs also sold well averaging £122.15 for 157, with a top price of £135 for a pen Scotch Mules from Messrs Jamieson, Garrochtrie, Port Logan, who also sold the lead priced Texels at £128.
