Carlisle

Harrison and Hetherington's weekly sale attracted an entry of 406 store and weaned cattle, which sold to £1330 for a Limousin bullock from Messrs Dickinson, High House, Wigton.

Heifers attained £1240 for a Limousin from Messrs Nelson, Rosgill Head, Penrith.

Weaned cattle peaked at £1400 on two occasions for Limousin bulls from Messrs Graham, Hetherside, and Messrs Wigham, Hargill House.

Top priced heifer in the section at £1070 was a Limousin from Messrs Henshall, Sarkshields, Lockerbie, whilst bullocks sold to £930 for another of the same from Messrs Graham, Fell View Farm, Wigton.

The firm's breeding cattle sale on the Friday was led by a British Blue cow and calf from Chall Parson, Slealands, at £3250.

All classes met a firm trade at Dingwall and Highland Marts sale of 297 stores, four adult head of breeding cattle and 82 OTM cattle.

Bullocks (143) averaged 246.9p per kg and sold to 337.1p per kg for 178kg Limousin crosses from Achnabourin, Strathnaver, and to £1255 for a 595kg Limousin cross from Lochbuie, Newtonmore.

Simmental crosses led the heifers (135) at 288.6p for a 220kg entry from Proncy, Dornoch, and to £1220 for 441kg crosses from Dunain Farms, Inverness, to level at 243.0p.

Limousin crosses from Caplich Estate, Oykel Bridge, topped the young bulls (19) at 254.8p and £995.

Also forward were 387 sheep of all classes, which reached £120 for a Cheviot ewe with twin Cheviot lambs from Drumbuie, Drumnadrochit.

Rams and feeding sheep sold to £111 for a Suffolk ram from Castlecraig Farms, Nigg.

Texel crosses from Englishtonmuir, Bunchrew, led the way among the hoggs at £89, whilst more of the same breed topped the ewes at £96 from Balnabeen, Conon Bridge.

A buoyant demand was again seen at Harrison and Hetherington's sale of store cattle, where a top price of £1030 was achieved on two occasions.

Aberdeen and Northern Marts had 490 store cattle, young and weaned calves and breeding cattle forward for their weekly sale, where bullocks and heifers averaged 226p per kg and 223.6p respectively.

Bullocks (250) sold to 290.2p per kg for a pair of 286kg Charolais crosses from Moss-side of Gight, Fyvie, and to £1445 for a 726kg Simmental cross from Netherton, Glenlivet.

Among the heifers it was 276kg Limousins that topped the trade at 271.7p from Cairntack, Belhelvie, and to £1340 for a 634kg British Blue cross from Rennibister, Kirkwall.

Also forward were 111 ewes with lambs, which peaked at £78 for Suffolk two-crop ewes with twin lambs at foot from Pollowick Farm, Cromdale.

Hoggs with lambs reached £76 for Texels with single lambs at foot from Daies, Wardhouse.

Limousin crosses weighing 332kg led the way among the heifers (37) at 246.8p per kg from Mains of Shevado, Maud, and to £1100 for a 570kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Markethill, Glass.

Bullocks (81) sold to an average 229.4p, selling to a top of 254.5p for 391kg Charolais crosses from Easter Corrie, Botriphnie, and to £1145 for 505kg Simmental crosses from Whitehil, Grange.

A good demand for all classes of stock was witnessed at C and D Auction Marts' sale of 175 store cattle.

Charolais heifers from High Auchneel, led the way reaching £1140, whilst Simmental bullocks from the same home peaked at £1085.

Bullocks and heifers averaged 218.39p and 212.2p respectively.

Among the breeding cattle it was a Limousin heifer with bull calf that came out on top, selling for £2330 for Haas side.
