More than 100 online buyers coupled with a good ringside attendance saw the dispersal of Mark Caygill and family’s Bluehill dairy herd from Auchencairn, Dumfries, sell to a top of £2300 on two occasions.

The sale, staged at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, was made up of mainly Irish Holstein Friesian cows averaging 35kg per day.

In all, some 20 animals sold for £2000 or more with a further 52 females making £1800 or above. In excess of 40 animals were purchased online with 30 buyers from 12 counties recorded on the buyers list.

It was two second calvers that sold for £2300 each, with the first purchased by Messrs Harrison, Penrith, and the second by Messrs Dunlop, Carrutherstown, Dumfriesshire.
