Some 443 prime and cast sheep were sold through Craig Wilson’s auction mart, where 317 prime lambs sold to average 214.9p per kg.

Top price was £110 per head for entries from A and T Wilson, Baryerrock and from JL McMillan, Carse O’Clary who also topped the price per kg section with Beltex at 236.1p.

All classes of cast sheep sold slightly dearer on the week and to £88 for Texel cross ewes from Messrs Sloan, Mull of Galloway and from JL McMillan, Carse O’Clary. Rams were topped at £73 for Blackfacse from J and T Scott, Garchew.

Forfar

Lawrie and Symington had forward 27 prime cattle and 427 prime sheep and cast ewes and rams.

Six bullocks sold to 253p per kg and £1497.76 for a 592kg Limousin from the Gask, to average 238p per kg.

Heifers (21) peaked at 258p for a 554kg Limousin from Nethermyres and to £1502.28 for a 642kg Limousin from Mill of Inverarity, to cash in at 233p.

New season lambs (349) attained 245p for a 40kg Beltex from Shandford, and to £122 from Skilmafilly, Ellon for a pair of 50kg Texels, to level at 217p (-14p on the week) with an SQQ of 218p per kg.

Dumfries

Some 50 cattle were forward for C and D Auction Marts’ weekly sale, where cattle sold to 236p per kg for a Limousin cross heifer from J Jardine Yett.

Around 372 spring lambs met a buoyant trade to average 221.3p selling to 253p for Texels from Newton and £107 for Texels from Meikleholm.

Cast ewes and rams (118) were sharper on the week and sold to £96 for Texels from Woodfoot, while rams were topped at £124 for Texels from Rockallhead.

Huntly

United Auctions sold 1105 prime sheep, where new season lambs (433) cashed in at 215.48p per kg selling to 236p for 44.2kg Beltex cross lambs from Victoria Terrace, Turriff and to £114 for 57kg Texels from Mains of Tillymorgan, Culsalmond.

Old season lambs (132) reached 179p for 34kg Cheviots from Langdale, Strathnaver and to £76 for 52kg Cheviots from Tacher, Latheron.

Stirling (Cale)

Caledonian Marts sold 161 cattle comprising of 64 bullocks, heifers and young bulls, and 83 OTM cattle and 14 young calves and stirks.

Heifers sold to 255p per kg for a Limousin from W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw, Broxburn and to £1517 for a Limousin from D Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie.

Bullocks were topped at 245p on four occasions from D Dickinson, Brockwoodlees; FC Eccles, Bruckley, St Andrews; M Orr, Penston, Tranent and AA and J Brand, Nethermyres, Auchtermuchty. Top per head was £1553 for a Limousin from JH and NT Turnbull, Meadowend, Clakmanan.

The 440 spring lambs sold on Tuesday, achieved an average of 223p (+15p on the week).

Top price was £130 for a 52kg Beltex from Doune Farms, who also sold the lead priced lambs per kg at 270p with 47kg Beltex.

Stirling (UA)

United Auctions sold 2365 prime sheep comprising of 1279 new season lambs which were topped at £118 for Texels from Floors and to 249p for Beltex from Easter Ochtermuthill, to average 211.58p.

The sale of ewes (786) was topped by Texels from Cherryfield at £154.00 whilst tups peaked at £130 for more of the same from Mains of Skeith and Whitburgh.

Thainstone

A total of 51 prime cattle were on offer through Aberdeen and Northern Marts weekly sale which sold to 228p per kg for a Limousin cross heifer from Newton of Drum.

Top per head was £1519.40 for a Limousin cross bullock from Messrs Wilson, Faichfodsand.

The 1389 prime sheep forward saw new season lambs average 219.4p per kg (-6.4p).

Top prices were 240p for 40kg Beltex from Bilboa, Daviot and £117 for 54kg Texels from Ard Na Moy.

Longtown

AT C and D Auction Marts’ sale some 4612 prime sheep comprising of 450 hoggs, 1460 lambs and 2702 cast sheep were forward for their weekly sale,

Spring lambs peaked at 290p for Texels from TD and JR Byers, Cubbyhill, Longtown with a top price per head of £128 paid for Texels from M Watson, Four O Boot, The Knells. They averaged 231.7p with an SQQ of 231.1p.

A larger show of 2702 ewes was topped at £184 for Texel ewes from IF Murray, Shepherds Cottage, Lowick.

St Boswells

Harrison and Hetherington’s weekly primestock sale on Monday saw bullocks (45) and heifers (50) average 211p per kg and 217p respectively.

Cattle sold to £1471.36 for a heifer from Bee Edge and to 242p from the same home.

Spring lambs (868) averaged 221.4p and reached a top of £124 for Suffolks from Belmont and 245.5p for Texels from The Knock.

Hoggs (98) met a steady trade peaking at £123 for Texels from Legars, while ewes sold to £117 for Suffolks from Smailholm Mains, to average £78.

Lanark

SOME 39 bullocks and heifers and 93 cast cows and bulls were forward for Lawrie and Symington’s sale on Monday.

Top price amongst the heifers was 260p per kg and £1493 paid for a Limousin from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie.

Bullocks peaked at 236p for a Limousin from Messrs Cook, Kinneil Mill Farm, Linlithgow and to £1415 for another of the same from Faskine.

Spring lambs (514) were topped at £125 per head for Suffolks from Messrs Frame, Birks and to 265p for Beltex from Messrs Hamilton, Mid Shawtonhill, to level at 215p with an SQQ of 215.5p

Ayr

Craig Wilson sold 1305 prime lambs and 251 cast sheep at their weekly sale with the former peaking at £130 for a Texel from DM Walker and Son, Laigh Alticane, and 246.7p per kg for Texels from W and RS Adam, Harelaw, Barrhead. They averaged 221.8p.

The 251 cast sheep sold dearer on the week, with Texel ewes peaking at £170 from Messrs Robb, Chalmerston.

Cast tups sold to £110 from J Shennan, Knockgerran.

On Tuesday, the firm’s prime and cast cattle sale saw heifers (17) cash in at 225.8p per kg with a top price of 247p paid for a Limousin cross heifer from North Boig.

Top per head was £1421.35 for a Limousin heifer from Knockgerran.

The 64 beef cows averaged 126.6p having sold to £1280 and 170.7p per kg for a Simmental from Genoch Mains.

The 77 dairy cows forward levelled at 105.9p with a top of £950 and 125p per kg paid for a Friesian from South Corton.

Dingwall

Dingwall and Highland Marts’ sale on Tuesday saw seven bullocks average 214.6p having sold to 218.0p for a 585kg Simmental cross from Bayhead, Munlochy, and to £1400.30 for a 670kg British Blue cross from Easter Sheep Park, Balblair.

Heifers (11) levelled at 214.3p and sold to 239.0p for a 545kg Limousin cross from Bridgend, Dingwall, and to £1388.60 for a 655kg Limousin cross from Easter Sheep Park, Balblair.

The sale of 217 prime sheep saw new season lambs (114) cash in at 217.7p having sold to 229.9p per kg for 43.5kg Texel crosses from Lochdhu, Nairn and to £106 for a 52kg Texel cross from Coldhome, Dallas.

Old season lambs (16) averaged 126.4p and sold to 127.5p for 51kg Texel crosses from Kiltarlity, Beauly, and to £75 for 65kg Cheviot Mules from Newmore, Muir of Ord.

Castle Douglas

Wallets Marts had forward 896 prime and cast sheep, at their sale on Tuesday, where 764 lambs sold to average 236.76p per kg with an SQQ of 237.50p.

Trade peaked at £125 for Suffolks from Messrs Brown, Trowdale.

Best bred export lambs were a flyer with 19 Beltex-bred lambs from Messrs Jardine, Upper Hardland scaling 41.2kg and realising £117 or 284p.
