Carlisle

A strong trade was witnessed at Harrison and Hetherington's weekly sale of 385 store and weanling cattle.

Topping the steer trade at £1370 was Limousins from Messrs Irving, Thackmire, whilst more of the same also led the way among the heifers, achieving £1360 from Messrs Beattie, Brownrigg.

Also forward were 213 weaned cattle, where bulls sold to a strong trade, topping this section at £1140 was a Limousin from Messrs Cowan, The Ash.

British Blue heifers attained £1050 from Messrs Bimson and Martin, Monkhill Hall Farm, whilst Limousin bullocks sold to £1040 from Messrs Pearson, The Fauld.

Bullocks led the way at United Auctions sale of 513 store cattle and 101 cast cows and bulls, selling to 279.40p per kg for a 272kg Charolais cross from Dyke, and to £1290 for a 636kg Limousin cross from Newpark.

Bullocks (236) and heifers (163) averaged 220.09p per kg, and 224.55p respectively.

Among the heifers it was a 285kg Limousin cross that came out on top at 270.20p, and to £1220 for a 592kg Charolais cross from Mains.

Young bulls (22) sold to 239.00p for a Charolais cross from Ashfield, and to £1150 for a Simmental cross from Hole O Clean.

Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 532 store cattle, young and weaned calves, young bulls and breeding

cattle, where bullocks and heifers averaged 224.6p per kg and 224.1p respectively.

Bullocks (280) peaked at 282.7p per kg for 336kg Limousins from Cairntack, Belhelvie, and to £1415 for 624kg Aberdeen-Angus’ from Netherwood, Banff.

Simmentals dominated the heifers (167) selling to 259.1p from Nether Kirkton, Barthol Chapel and per head at £1430 came from Castlewigg, Whithorn.

Bulls (21) averaged 206.4p and sold to 222.9p for 406kg Charolais from Chapelpark Croft, Forgue and to £1070 for a 568kg Limousin from Reaster, Lyth.

Breeding cattle (58) sold to £2280 for a Limousin heifer with heifer calf at foot from Mains of Drumdollo, Drumblade.

The firm also sold 131 ewes with lambs at foot, which saw Texel hoggs with single lambs from Tewel, Stonehaven, top the sale at £86.

Cheviot ewes with twin lambs peaked at £75 from Pityot, Bridge of Muchalls.

Bullocks reached £1145 for a Limousin from John and Jonjo Pattinson, Hot Bank on The Roman Wall.

Sheep trade peaked at £105 for a Suffolk ewe from Richard Dent, Beamwham, whilst store hoggs attained £79 for Texel crosses from Crowhall.

Bullocks sold to 267p for Limousins from Luss Estate Company, and to £1280 for Charolais from CML Grazings, Stirling.

More Limousins from Luss Estate Company, attained the top price among the heifers at 233p, and top per head at £1290 was a Limousin from D and L Graham, Mains of Burnbank, Blairdrummond.
