All classes and types met a fast trade at Harrison and Hetherington’s monthly dairy sale at Carlisle where more than 300 animals changed hands, with almost 100 selling through the firm’s online bidding facility.

Sale leader at £2400 came in the form of the Holstein heifer, Wreaywood Attempt Edna Red, from the Wilson Family, Woodside Farm, Wreay, Carlisle.

This AOT Desired Attempt-Red daughter is out of Wreaywood Spectrum Edna Red, and went home with Messrs Rae, Collin, Dumfries.

The same home, sold another, Wreaywood Appleman Patsy, for £2250 to Messrs Story, Longtown, Carlisle, Cumbria. A Wyndford DB Appleman Red daughter, she is bred from Wreaywood Manifold Patsy.

Rattrig Altapainter Countess came up with the goods too for JG Shanks and Son, Standhill, Hawick, when she attracted the second top price of £2300 from Messrs Forrest and Son, Lockerbie.

A daughter of Peak Altapainter, bred from Rattrig Altaskoda, this fresh Holstein heifer changed hands giving 26.9kg.

Another three heifers from the Shanks family’s Rattrig herd from Roxburghshire, sold for £2150 each.

First was Rattrig Altaroboto Jill, a daughter of Bomaz Altaroboto, out of Rattrig Altaranger Jill, purchased by Messrs Robertson, Rothesay, Isle of Bute.

Next at the same money was Rattrig Altasemi Victoria, which headed home with Messrs Mair, Mouswald, Dumfries.

This Holstein heifer is a daughter of Hnkes-Wessel Altasemi, out of Rattrig Altamarauder Victoria, and sold giving 24.2kg per day.

Dumfries-shire breeders, Messrs Byers and Son, Canonbie, purchased the last lot from the Shanks family at £2150.

This was Rattrig Altaroboto Jill, a Bomaz Altaroboto daughter, out of Rattrig Otto Jill. She changed hands giving 28.4kg per day.

Two other Holsteins came under the hammer for £2150 to include Liscabank Chamber Barb from AB and J Parkinson, Liscoe Farm, Bodkin Lane, Our Rawcliffe, Preston.

This heifer is sired by Matcrest Chamber, out of Liscabank Snowking Barb and sold giving 30kg per day, to Isle of Bute purchasers Messrs Robertson.

The same buyers were again in the box for another at £2150 in the shape of a freshly calved Holstein Friesian heifer from R and A Slack, Cockley Bank, Heads Nook, Brampton, Carlisle.
