Carlisle

A Limousin heifer led the way at Harrison and Hetherington’s weekly sale of store and weanling cattle, selling at £1520 for Messrs Barnes, Hutton Roof, Penrith.

Top priced bullock was a British Blue from Messrs Beaty, Durdar, Carlisle, which made £1300.

Another large entry of weaned cattle was topped at £1230 by a Limousin bull from Messrs Dixon and Sons, Haresceugh Castle.

Messrs McWhirter, Garvilland, Glenluce, sold the top priced Charolais cross bullocks and heifers for £940 in both sections.

The firm’s weekly sale saw 286 calves sell to £580 for a British Blue heifer from Kallum Hunt, Braithwaite Shields.

Stirling UA

All cows met an increased trade on the week with 19 buyers in attendance at United Auctions’ weekly sale which saw 633 native-bred stores and young bulls, 87 breeding cattle and 103 out of spec cattle, cast cows and bulls, forward.

Beef cows averaged 150.08p per kg, and dairy cows at 114.00p per kg, with the former selling to 208.10p per kg for a Limousin cross from Carslae, and to £1530 for a Blonde cross from Chapel. Dairy cows peaked at 133.90p per kg and £1095 per head for a Holstein Friesian cross from Wester Borland.

Bullocks (323) averaged 217.46p per kg having sold to 309.60p per kg for a 218kg British Blue cross from High Bellochantuy, and to £1340 for a 615kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from High Unthank.

Among the 230 heifers, a 202kg British Blue cross from High Bellochantuy, topped the trade at 269.80p while a 569kg Beef Shorthorn cross from Crookedstonemuir, sold at £1130. Heifers levelled at 214.34p.

Young bulls (9) balanced out at 191.21p, and peaked at 218.20p and £1165 for an Aberdeen-Angus cross from Bows.

A buoyant demand was witnessed at Craig Wilson’s sale of 57 breeding cattle, where quality sorts were easily cashed with a plainer show for quality forward.

Topping the sale at £2100 was a Limousin heifer with bull calf at foot from Barleith.

The same home also topped the cows and calves at £1700 with a similarly bred entry with another bull calf at foot.

Simmentals led the way among the bulls at £1800 from Darwhilling.

Thainstone

Aberdeen and Northern Marts had 1012 store cattle, young bulls and weaned calves at their sale which saw bullocks and heifers average 231.9p per kg and 229.2p respectively.

Bullocks sold to 289.2p per kg for a 370kg Limousin from Sheep Park, Aberchirder, and to £1480 for a 692kg Limousin from Kilcoy, Muir of Ord.

A 458kg Limousin topped the heifers at 353.7p from Lethen Mains, Nairn, and to £1650 for a 556kg Charolais from Wardhead, Strichen.

Bulls (11) averaged 193.7p having sold to 227.1p for a 414kg Charolais from Lagavaich, Glenvlivet, and to £1010 for a 528kg Aberdeen-Angus from Achscrabster, Bridge of Westfield.

The firm also sold 50 breeding cattle, where trade peaked at £2000 for a Simmental heifer with heifer calf from Cocklarachy, Huntly.

On Tuesday, Lawrie and Symington held their fortnightly sale of 219 store cattle, where bullocks and heifers levelled at 218p per kg and 214p respectively.

Bullocks were topped at £1330 for a Charolais cross from Bluebell, and to 237.7p for Limousin crosses from the same home.

More Limousin crosses from Bluebell, led the way among the heifers at 233.5p, whilst Aberdeen-Angus from Overburns Farm peaked at £1200.

A Charolais cross heifer led the way at Hexham and Northern Marts’ weekly sale of store cattle, peaking at £1260 for an entry from Robert and Kay Thompson, The Whins, Bishop Auckland.

Steers attained £1200 for a Limousin from Brian Charlton, East Newham, Ponteland.

Among the cast ewes, leaner ewes continued at a strong trade with bigger ewes similar on the week. The sale was topped at £118 for Texel ewes from RM Johnson, High Fotherley.

Store hoggs peaked at £98 for Suffolk cross hoggs from JB Cowan and Co, Morrowfield, whilst store lambs attained £84 for Beltex crosses from Dan Humble of Allergill, Stanhope.

Quoybrae

All classes of cattle met a flying trade at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 578 store cattle and 15 breeding cattle, where bullocks and heifers averaged 228.5p per kg and 222.7p respectively.

Bullocks sold to 305.6p per kg for a 360kg Limousin cross from Roadside, Gills, and to £1380 for a 668kg Simmental cross from Lochend, Barrock.

Simmental crosses led the heifers selling to 262.6p from Granton Mains, Bower, and to £1300 on two occasions firstly from Norland, Lybster, and again from Lochend, Barrock.

Among the breeding cattle it was a Simmental cow with bull calf at foot from Cairntack, that topped the trade at £2150.

Store lambs (221) averaged £74.81 having peaked at £81 for Suffolk from Achvarasdal, whilst feeding ewes and rams (80) reached £106 for a Charollais ram from Murza, Bower.
