A GrassCheckGB webinar focusing on the methods and benefits of measuring grass is set to take place on July 20 2020.

From 1.00pm till 2.00pm, speaker’s Dr Taro Takahashi, Rothamsted Research, and Robert Hassall, Handley Enterprises Ltd will focus on:

• The importance of measuring grass

• The principles of a plate meter

• The techniques for measuring grass

• How measuring grass links into improving utilisation

The webinar will be hosted by Bruce McConachie, Interim Head of Industry Development at Quality Meat Scotland (QMS).

Bruce commented: “I would encourage anyone interested in getting the most from their grass to attend the free GrasscheckGB webinar.

“Every farm is different, however, it’s important that farmers know what tools and data are available to them to help manage their grass and forage-based systems more efficiently and to maximise both grass growth and utilisation.”

QMS support GrassCheckGB to deliver benchmarking tools for grassland farmers in Scotland that will help them manage their pasture efficiently and deliver high productivity from ruminant livestock. GrassCheckGB aims to improve grassland productivity and pasture utilisation on beef and sheep farms through a new grassland performance monitoring network.

This project is a collaboration between Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC), the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB), and Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) together with the Centre for Innovation Excellence in Livestock (CIEL) and researchers at the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI) and Rothamsted Research.
