The McMenamin family of the Mullinvale flock, from Lifford, Co Donegal, secured the overall top price of 50,000gns at the Suffolk Society's annual sale, staged this year, through Lawrie and Symington's Lanark Centre.

This January-born ram lamb is sired by Plasllewelyn Pure Genius and out of a Cavanagrove Catalyst-sired Cairness dam.

He heads home with Stewart Craft of the Lakeview flock, from Little Balquhomrie, Glenrothes, who also enjoyed a cracking sale with two at 26,000gns.

A buoyant trade throughout saw no fewer than 12 lots sell at five-figure prices with a second top price of 32,000gns paid for an entry from the last lot through the ring from Michael McNally.

The Stuart's Birness flock was another in the money with ram lamb sales at 30,000gns and 26,000gns, and Alastair Gault, Forkins, also received 26,000gns for his best.

Overall averages were also up on the year with 159 ram lambs cashing in at £3023.25, compared to 144 at £2853 last year. Five gimmers levelled at £829.50.
