Sheep records were well and truly blown out of the water at Lanark, when a Texel ram lamb from the Boden family's Sportsmans flock sold for a world record price of 350,000gns at the Scottish Premier sale.

Add to that another 18 five-figure priced ram lambs and this jaw dropping sale also secured a record breaking average of £4702.78 for 283 - despite the reduced attendance as a result of the social distancing restrictions.

Sportsmans Double Diamond, a son of the 65,000gns Garngour Craftsman, from the Stockport-based Sportsmans flock, is bred from Plasucha Big Gun daughter and sold in a three-way split to Hugh and Alan Blackwood, Auldhouseburn, Muirkirk; Procters Farm, Lancs, managed by Jeff and Jennifer Aiken and Jeff Teward of the New View flock from Darlington.

The Bodens had a cracking sale and outwith their 350,000gns topper, sold a further six for more than 10,000gns. Their seven Sportsmans lambs cashed in at £71,655, with their three from Mellorvale selling to a top or 40,000gns to average £18,322.50.

Next best from the family at 50,000gns was Sportsmans Dirty Harry, another by the Garngour sire out of a ewe by the 130,000gns Sportsmans a Star. The buyers were Bryden Nicolson, of the Knockem flock from Duns, Bruce Renwick, Castlecairn, Kelso; Tom and Jack Arnott, Haymount, Kelso; Donald and Ross Macpherson, of the Hexel flock from Berwick upon Tweed and Robbie Wilson, Milnbank, Turriff.

Minutes later, Sportsmans Deal Breaker by the same sire made 28,000gns to Robert Cockburn and Diane Wood, Knap, Errol, with Thomas Muirhead, Orchilmore, Comrie also taking a share.

Top price for the Boden's Mellorvale flock was 40,000gns paid for Mellor Vale Deja Vu, again by Craftsman, purchased by John Forsyth, Glenside, Maybole and Neil and Stuart Barclay, Harestone, Insch, Aberdeenshire.

On the debit side, Mr Boden went to 26,000gns for the best from Karen and Allan Wight's Midlock pen from Midlock, Crawford. Midlock De Niro is by Sportsmans Cannon Ball.

Second top price was 65,000gns paid for the No 2 lamb from Donald and Ross Macpherson's Hexel flock from Berwick upon Tweed. More than doubling their previous best of 32,000gns, was Hexel Django which sold in a three-way split to Midlock; the Knox from Mid Haddo, Turriff and the Campbell brothers from Lochgoilhead. He is by Procters Chumba Wumba.

On the other side of the equation, William Knox and sons Graeme and Andrew's Haddo flock from Turriff, received 34,000gns for Haddo Dynamite, purchased by Brian Buchan, Clinterty, Fraserburgh and George Howie, Knock, Stuartslaw, Peterhead. He is by Hexel Born to be Wild.

Matching that 34,000gns sale was Rob and James Claybury's Claybury Dunkirk from Shrewsbury. A son of Strathbogie Cannonball, he sold to Midlock; Gordon and David Gray, Ettrick, Selkirk and Archie and John MacGregor, Allanfauld, Kilsyth.

A cracking trade for the Haymount flock from Kelso, saw Tom and Jack Arnott sell their best at 32,000gns. Haymount Divine King, by Usk Vale Crackerjack was purchased by Will Davies, buying back some of his own genetics for the Usk Vale flock from Pontypool.

Top price for Andrew Clark's Teiglum flock from Blackhill, Carluke, was 30,000gns paid for Teiglum Dancing Brave. He’s by Procters Chumba Wumba, and sold to Robbie Wilson, Milnbank.
