Stuart Wood is renowned for producing the best in several sheep breeds and he added yet another string to his bow at the recent Badger Face Texel sale at Carlisle, setting another new high of 5500gns.

Selling for that new breed record was the shearling ram, Woodies All Muscle, and not the tup previously reported. This tup from the Aberdeenshire-based flock from Woolhillock, Skene, which is better known for its pedigree Beltex and Blue Texels, is bred from imported genetics on both sides. Sired by the imported Woodies 26389-38944 and bred from an imported Woodies dam, he was purchased by Messrs Wright, Boston, Lincolnshire.

Mr Wood also sold the second top priced female at 2200gns in Woodies Angelica. Another backed by imported lines on both sides of her pedigree and a full sister to the 1400gns female sold in May, this gimmer was knocked down to Messrs Christie, Aberdeen.

Northern Ireland breeder, Clive Richardson, Maguirestown, sold the lead priced gimmer at 2300gns. His Cleenagh Ambition, by the imported ram Cleenagh Hugo Boss and out of an imported dam, was purchased by Messrs Brown and Mason, Lancaster, who also went to 2200gns for a gimmer from Dylan and Bethan Jones' Beili flock, from Llanllwni, Pencader, Carms. Beili Alys is out of an imported ewe and sired by the imported Turbo Das ram.

Ewe lambs were topped at 2000gns for Cleenagh Breath Taking, another from Clive Richardson. This February-born entry backed by imported lines on both sides, went home with Messrs Timm, Pontrefract.

Mr Richardson also sold the second top priced male at 1800gns. His ram lamb, also bred from imported genetics, sold to Messrs Jarvis, Chipping, Preston, Lancashire.

Averages: 17 gimmers, £1451.47; eight ewe lambs, £1011.93; eight shearling rams, £1434.56; 14 ram lambs, £714.75.
