Aberdeenshire sheep breeder, Stuart Wood, made his presence felt at a pedigree sale of Dutch Texels at Carlisle, on Monday, buying the top priced lot at 5600gns.
Mr Wood from Woolhillock, Skene, forked out that money for the No 1 shearling ram from Giles Pyman’s Thacka flock from Parkview, Stainton, Penrith. Thacka Cruyff, a son of the imported ram, A Class Act, is out of a home-bred ewe by Turbo Sylvester.
Mr Pyman also received 3000gns from Messrs Dalton, Hallbankgate, Brampton, for Thacka Cantona, another by A Class Act.
Second top price was 5500gns, paid for IR Clough’s Raindale Chieftan from their flock from Pickering, purchased by Messrs Cropper, Haslingden, Rossendale, Lancs. This home-bred shearling is by Raindale Won, a Penparc Tiberius son, and out of a ewe by Thacka Rascal.
The same buyers also bought the lead priced female, a gimmer at 1700gns from the Rawling’s Wiston flock from Nayland, Colchester. She is by a Dutch sire.
Heading up to Kirriemuir with Messrs McIntyre at 1100gns a gimmer from Steven Wigham’s, Hargill flock from Park Burnfoot, Haltwhistle. Her sire is a Dutch ram while her dam is by Woodies Texels Weapon.
