Top quality calves met a cracking trade at Caledonian Mart’s Premier Calf sale at Stirling, where bullocks levelled at 250p per kg, a rise of 42p on the year, whilst heifers averaged 236p per kg, up 31p.

Bullocks peaked at 302p per kg for Limousins from Markhill Farms, Glenduisk, Barrhill, who sold 40 head cattle to average £1138, up £201 on the year, and to £1470 for more of the same cross from D Walker and Sons, Camregan, Girvan.

Limousins from Camregan also led the heifers, at 290p and £1360, with the farm’s 80 head to levelling at £1164, a rise of £170 on the year.
