At Borderway Mart, Harrison and Hetherington's weekly store cattle sale saw an entry of 793 head, sell to £1390 for an Aberdeen-Angus cross bullock from Messrs Nixon, Ribton House, Workington with heifers to £1340 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Bowman, Croft House, Penrith.

Weanlings were sharper on the week, selling to £1290 was Limousin cross bulls from Andrew Cooper, Hallmoor; £1210 for a British Blue heifer from Messrs Dent, Bridge End, and £1090 for a Limousin cross bullock from Messrs Robley, Demesne Farm, attained £1090.

The firm's weekly calf sale was topped at £580 for two Charolais bulls from W Templeton and Son, Glenlaugh Farm, Dumfries,

All classes of store lambs were easily sold, selling to £102 for Beltex from WH and F Wood, Well Head Dean.

Limousins played their part in the heifers (362) attaining 301.5p for 398kg Limousin crosses from Clinterty, New Aberdour and to £1460 for 532kg entries from Hillocks, Keig.

Store lambs continued to sell at extreme rates meeting the best trade of the season so far, with consignors averages up as much as £15-£22 per head on the year.

The 1416 store lambs including island consignments, saw island ewes lead at £102 for a Texel from Snaraness House, Bridge of Walls.

Blackface lambs peaked at £59 from Auchengruith, whilst the annual consignment of 355 lambs from Messrs Semple, Barmulloch, Campbeltown, was topped at £88 and average £75.25.

The 256 lambs from Orkney and Shetland Isles attained £83 for Suffolks from Laurenson, Uphouse.

On Tuesday, the firm sold 848 store cattle at their fortnightly sale, where trade reached £1800 for a Limousin heifer from W Shearer, Burnbrae.

All classes of breeding stock met a strong demand at Dingwall and Highland Marts' sale of 1488 store and breeding sheep incorporating annual sale of HISHA accredited sheep and 656 head on behalf of Lewis Livestock Producers.

Gimmers (389) averaged £130.74, up £30.85 on the year, having sold to £172 for a pen of Texel crosses from Balnabeen, Conon Bridge.

Ewes (231) averaged £89.11, a rise of £18.34 on the year, and sold to £162 for Texel crosses from the dispersal of Keppernach Farm, Nairn.

Cheviots from Tombreck, Dallas, topped the ewe lambs (590) at £126, which levelled at £92.93, representing a rise of £30.01 and Suffolk crosses topped the 278 store lambs selling to £90 from Spierfield, Balblair. They levelled at £52.21, up £6.01.

Shetland Livestock Marketing Group in conjunction with Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 3180 lambs to average £67 at their opening sale of the season last weekend

A flying trade throughout saw increased averages in all sections, bolstered by the addition of the online bidding platform.

By the end of the day, 1712 Suffolk cross lambs averaged £72.81, up £15.96 on the year; 718 Texel cross lambs, £73.05, a rise of £15.40; 404 Cheviot crosses, £53.85, plus £12.26 and 117 Shetland lambs at £36.37, up £11.52.
