More than 1100 store cattle were forward for United Auctions' weekly sale, where bullocks (589) and heifers (411) averaged 213.13p per kg and 211.11p respectively.

Bullocks were topped at 283.60p per kg for a 201kg Limousin cross from Kirkland, and to £1290 for a 578kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Kipperoch.

Charolais crosses led the heifers, with a 491kg making 245.40p from Formal, and to £1310 for a 638kg heifer from Shortrigg.

Young bulls (9) averaged 181.16p and sold to 186.80p and £850 for Charolais crosses from ASL Farms.

The firm also sold 7172 store lambs and feeding sheep, where Beltex crosses averaged £72.84 (£1.75 on the week); Mules at £71.49 (+£2.16); Cheviots at £61.28 (+£3.96); Suffolk crosses £74.73 (+£10.04); with Texel crosses at £72.55 (+£0.10); and Blackfaces at £53.83 (+£0.83).

Thainstone

Strong store cattle met a similar trade on the week at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' sale of 1063 head

Bullocks (372) averaged 219.7p having sold to 273.8p per kg for a 420kg Limousin from Main Street, Aberchirder, and to £1435 for 660kg Charolais from Hillhead Easterton, Hatton.

A 474kg Simmental from Redland, Stromness, led the heifers (236) at 308p and £1460, to level at 220.8p.

Bulls (7) sold to 213.8p for 470kg Aberdeen-Angus and £1005 on two occasions – for a pair of 470kg Aberdeen-Angus’ and secondly for a 512kg Aberdeen-Angus all from Milton of Collieston, Ellon.

The firm also sold 2622 island consigned store and breeding sheep, where island lambs (2295) sold to £90 for Texels from Greenside, Baltasound, whilst island sheep (327) attained £98 for more of the same from Virse, Haroldswick.

More than 3000 store lambs were forward for Lawrie and Symington's weekly sale, where peaked at £84.50 twice for Texels from Thomson, Laberston, and for Suffolks from Messrs Hay, Stackhoull, Shetland.

The fortnightly sale of 861 store cattle, saw bullocks and heifers average 215.1p per kg and 210.3p respectively.

Bullocks peaked at £1430 for an Aberdeen-Angus from Ledrishbeg, and to 241p per kg for a Charolais from Nisbet.

Aberdeen-Angus from Ledrishbeg also topped the heifers at £1310, whilst a British Blue from Blarnavaid sold to 242p.

All classes of lambs were a similar trade to last week at Caledonian Marts' sale of 3548 store lambs and feeding ewes.

Top price was £87 paid for Beltex lambs from Balliemore Estates, Otterferry.

Blackface lambs (1844) levelled at £51.47 and were topped at £65 for a pen of 50 from N and C Chambers, Todholes, Fintry.

The 307 store and breeding cattle, saw bullocks and heifers average 211p per kg and 202p respectively.

Bullocks sold to 250p for Limousins from A Baxter, Victory Cottage, Avonbridge, and to £1140 for more of the same from AL and J Blair, East Kerse, Lochwinnoch.

Shorthorn crosses topped the heifers at 247p and £1330 from G Roberts, Hillcairnie, Cupar.

The 66 breeding cattle which included a dispersal from Mrs Henderson, Westtown, Sorn, sold to £3400 for an Aberdeen-Angus stock bull from Rawburn.

Averages improved on the year at United Auctions' sale of 3591 sheep of all classes, where 2575 lambs averaged £51.12 (+£14.16).

Texel cross lambs led the way at £86 from Tullochcan, whilst feeding ewes attained £58 on two occasions for Cheviots from Ardsheal, and for crosses from Greenfield.

Limousin crosses topped the heifers at 405.7p per kg from Ose Farm, Struan, and to £1300 for a 645kg entry from Meadle, Struan, to level at 266.5p (+65.1p on the year).

Young bulls (6) sold to 326.3p for a 190kg Limousin cross from Gesto Farm, Struan, and to £900 for a 515kg Simmental cross from Upper Duntulm, Kilmuir.

All classes saw a substantial rise on the year at Dingwall and Highland Marts' sale of 365 weaned calves and store cattle, 16 OTM cattle and five adult head of breeding cattle.

Limousin crosses led the bullocks (205) selling to 352.9p per kg for a 170kg Limousin cross from Burnside, Argyll, and £945 for a pen of 410kg from Lurignish, Appin, to average 268.4p (+48.1p on the year).

Heifers (160) averaged 257.9p (+67.0p) having sold to 300.0p for a pair of 205kg Simmental crosses from Burnside, Isle of Mull, and to £950 for a 425kg Limousin cross from Lurignish Farm.

A Hereford bull topped the breeding cattle at £1200 from Ardtornish Farms, Morven.
