Top price at Craig Wilson Mart's annual Tup Fair, was £1300 paid for an accredited Texel shearling from J Kerr, Cundry Mains, Lendalfoot.

The sale of 199 accredited and 169 non accredited rams, was followed at £1000 for a non-accredited Bluefaced Leicester from M and E Drummond, Cassington.

Suffolk ram lambs sold to £620 from D Gilmour, Broomknowes, with Texel ram lambs to £520 from H McPhee, North Lodge, Dundonald.

The firm's sale of 3202 breeding females, was topped at £300 for a pen of six Texel gimmers from James Murdoch and Son, Knockdon, while Blackface gimmers peaked at £162 from W Stevenson and Son, Balrazzie and Mule gimmers to £170 from J McTaggart, Dunjop.

The 660 Blackface ewes averaged £86.41 (+£25.70 on the year), having sold to £100 from Lagafater Farms, Barnvannoch, while the 300 Blackface gimmers, levelled at £137.39 (+£25.65).

Cheviot gimmers sold to £152 for a pen of 20 from T Blackhurst, Bynehill, Girvan, with Mule ewe lambs to £114 from A Paton, Craig, Straiton.

Averages improved by £25.91 at Harrison and Hetherington's Latter Fair sale of Mule ewe lambs, where the entry of 4752 levelled at £108.75.

Top price was £290 paid for a pen of 10 from JW Smith-Jackson, Hightown, followed by £250 for a pen from Messrs Moore, High Side.

The 300 rams sold to £1000 twice for Dutch Texel shearlings from Messrs Mounsey, Ashfield.

Suffolks peaked at £650 for a shearling from Messrs Irving East Cliffe, while Texels sold to £700 twice from Messrs Harrison, Sceugh Farm.

Some 10,180 Mule ewe lambs were forward for Mitchells Auction Mart's Lakeland prize show and sale, where the pre-sale judges, Thomas Hird, Westray and Antony Spencer, Vicarage, awarded the championship to a pen from RW and JH Emmott, Wythop Hall.

Reserve was presented to a pen from AG and KF Nicholson, Swinside End.

Top price was £360 per head from Greenhow Farm, with the whole sale averaging £98.15.

The firm's Lakeland sale of 4549 store and continental cross ewe lambs, levelled at £71.26, with a top price of £142 paid for a pair of Kerry Hill ewe lambs from A and S Hadwin, The Steading, while Texel cross ewe lambs from AJ Wood, Woodhall Brow sold to £120.

Wedders peaked at £111 for Texels also from Woodhall Brow.

Dumfries

Trade peaked at £800 for a shearling at the annual on-farm sale of Texel rams on behalf of the Douglas family, from Mains of Airies, Leswalt, Stranraer, whose entry of 42 head wich averaged £386.11, was sold through C and D Auctions.

The top priced ram sold to Messrs Andrews, Turnberry.

Campbeltown

A new centre record price of £900 was achieved at C and D Auction Marts' sale of 120 rams and 510 breeding sheep conducted on behalf of the Kintyre Agricultural Society, where shearlings averaged £331 and ram lambs levelled at £222.

Sale leader was a Suffolk shearling from Messrs McIntyre, Glenahervie, Southend, who later sold another of the same £750.

Thomas Cameron, Gartvaigh topped the Bluefaced Lecicesters at £600 with a shearling, followed by £480 from Messrs Semple, Dalbrhaddan.

Texels peaked to £520 from A and J Pirie, Machrihanish, while Texel lambs made £400 from C McMillan, Low Tirfergus.

Charollais rams were led by Jeffrey Parkhouse, Inverae who sold at £420 and £400, twice, while Beltex cross shearlings from R and J Lines, Killowcraw hit £420 and £400.

Breeding females sold well with Blackface gimmers selling to £185 from M Huysamer, Laggan View, with other Blackies to £150 from Brennanlea and £135 from High Dalrioch.

Mule gimmers hit a top of £180 from Skernish and Darlochan Yard, who later sold Texel gimmers to £155.

Ewes reached £140 from G Gillespie, while ewe lambs made £120 from P Grumoli.

Oban

A buoyant trade was recorded at United Auctions' sale of 3835 breeding sheep, where 1372 ewe lambs averaged £70.50 (+£21.34 on the year), 833 gimmers cashed in at £113.11 (+£26.38) and 1630 ewes levelled at £75.90 (+£22.14).

Top price was £400 paid for Texel gimmers from Drimsynie.

Hexham

For the third year in succession, a pen of 10 Blackfaces from RW and K Telford, Branton Eastside, won the championship at Hexham and Northern Marts' prize show and sale of gimmers.

The pen later sold from £200 per head to A and D Proctor, Swarland Old Hall.

Judge William Fawcett, Sleightholm Farm Partners, found his reserve in a pen of Blackfaces from Stuart Herdman, Whitechapel, that realised £182.

Cheviot Mule gimmers also peaked to £200 for a pen of 21 from FT Walton, Flotterton, who also topped the Suffolk gimmers at £178.

Top price however was £245 paid for a pen of Beltex cross gimmers from JC and C MacDonald, Light Birks.
