A cracking trade for the 593 suckled calves forward for Harrison and Hetherington’s sale, saw no fewer than 62 animals sell for £1200 or more with averages up a massive £147 per head on the year to level at £1059.

Bullocks averaged £1085 and heifers at £1035, with the majority of cattle being 12 months or younger.

Top price was £1900 paid on three occasions from Brian Hall, Ainstable Hall, who sold five British Blue cross Limousin heifers to average £1706.

John and Craig Robertson, Newton of Logierait, sold heifers and bullocks at £1520 and £1430 respectively, to average £1211.50, for 20.

Top price amongst the bullocks was £1470 for a 14-month-old Limousin from Katrina Donaldson, The Guards, Ireby.

The firm’s store lamb sale on Monday saw 1000 head sell to £93 for five Beltex lambs from Messrs Norman, Stone Lodge.

Breeding sheep were topped at £165 from Messrs Musgrave, Sowerby Wood.
