Special sales from across the country continue to meet a strong trade throughout.

Dingwall

All classes again met an exceptional trade at Dingwall and Highland Marts' sale where bullocks (440) and heifers (440) averaged 231.8p per kg and 218.7p respectively.

Bullocks sold to 303.2p per kg for a 470kg Limousin cross from Conon, Uig, and to £1320 for a 690kg Charolais cross from Fiddlefield, Muir of Ord.

Heifers reached 324.3p for 148kg Limousin cross from Conon, Uig, and to £1520 for a 500kg entry of the same breed from Lochend, Barrock.

The firm also sold 6418 store lambs and feeding sheep, which saw lambs level at £59.97 (up £13.02 on the year).

Blue Texel lambs topped the section at £115 from Smallburn Farms, Duffus, whilst feeding sheep attained £120 for a Texel ram from Lochlait, Abriachan.

A feature of the day was the dispersal of the Spartan Shorthorn herd from Sittyton Farm, Newmachar and the sale from Tister, Halkirk.

Topping the sale at £4900 was a Beef Shorthorn cow with heifer calf from Sittyton.

A 257kg Limousin cross bullock from Osclay Mains led the way at United Auctions' sale of 1372 store cattle, native-bred cattle and young bulls, when it sold for 287.90p.

Topping price per head was £1355 from a 616kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Garvald Mains. The 746 bullocks averaged 221.20p per kg.

Simmental crosses from Snaigow topped the 503 heifers at 250.9p for a 558kg entry and to £1400 for a 558kg lot. Heifers averaged 211.20p.

The firm's sale of 10,965 store lambs, feeding and breeding sheep on Monday saw Beltex lambs from Hardieston top the trade at £92.00.

Cheviots averaged £68.31 (+£5.17 on the week) with Beltex crosses levelled at £78.32 (-£10.01), Mules at £67.94 (-£1.45), Suffolk crosses at £75.02 (-£0.01), Texel crosses at £69.45 (-£2.62) and Blackfaces at £52.15 (-£3.88 on the week).

Thainstone

Averages were up on the week at Aberdeen and Northern Marts weekly sale of store cattle, where bullocks (474) and heifers (506) averaged 220.5p per kg and 223.4p respectively.

Bullocks sold to 287.7p per kg for a 212kg Simmental from Strone Croft, Newtonmore, and to £1425 for 698kg Charolais from Newton of Auchindoir, Ryhnie.

Among the heifers it was a 422kg Simmental from Tamala, Burnside, that attained 279.6p, whilst a 618kg Charolais from Lochend, Westray peaked at £1305.

Also forward was the West Highland weaned cattle, which saw bullocks (57) and heifers (59) average 257.4p and 240.1p respectively.

A 196kg Limousin from Feorlig, Dunvegan, topped the bullocks at 331.6p, whilst a 480kg Simmental attained £1080 for Heribost, Dunvegan. Heifers reached 342.9p for a 140kg Limousin from Feorlig, and to £945 for a 450kg Aberdeen-Angus from Greep, Dunvegan.

Store lambs (739) averaged £62.53 and sold to £81 for Texels from Rickarton, Stonehaven.

A large show of 150 head was forward for C and D Auction Marts' monthly sale of pigs, where baconers sold to £135, sows to £120, boars to £115, cutters to £114, porkers to £62 and weaners to £50 per head.

Texel lambs led the way amongst the 600 store lambs, peaking at £78.50 for Ryecroft.

The firm also held their fortnightly sale of 742 store cattle which included their autumn sale of organic cattle that saw bullocks and heifers balance out at 232.6p per kg and 224p respectively.

Swinside top priced bullocks and heifers per kg, whilst Torhousemuir achieved £1250 for bullocks and Aulton Muirhouse sold to £1230 among the heifers.

The 577 continental bullocks and heifers average 214.9p per kg and 213.2p respectively, with bullocks selling 270p per kg from Laught Mains and to £1380 from Landis.

Texels lambs averaged £70.54, Suffolks at £72.87; Beltex at £72.50; Mules at £70.30, and Blackfaces at £50.45.

The 488 store cattle saw bullocks and heifers average 218p per kg and 214p respectively.

Limousins topped the bullocks at 254p per kg from Baluskie, Barrhill and to £1220 from High Kilphin, Ballantrae.

Heifers peaked at 270p for more of the same from Baluskie, and to £1220 for Charolais from Broadleys, Stirling.

Lawrie and Symington's sale of 380 store cattle saw both bullocks (207) and heifers (173) average 224p per kg.

Bullocks reached £1300 for a 625kg Limousin cross from DS Stark and Sons, South Ballo, and to 254.5p for 385kg Charolais crosses from I and L Simpson, Knowehead of Duntrune, and 275kg Simmental crosses from John Duff and Son, Waterside of Thornton.

Limousin crosses topped the heifers, selling to £1290 for a 640kg beast from I and G Grant, Bank of Gallery, and for a 585kg heifer from DS Stark and sons, South Ballo, whilst more Limousins weighing 440kg also topped the pence per kg at 265.9p from WK and P Drysdale, Middle Drimmie.
