Bullocks topped United Auctions’ sale of 1094 store cattle, where trade reached 256p for a 414kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Castlehill and £1350 for a 680kg Charolais cross from Gateside, to level at 221.85p.

Limousin crosses led the heifers which averaged 213.16p having sold to 250.00p for a 456kg lot from High Glentriplock or £1290 for a 594kg beast from Nether Dalkeith.

The 185 beef cows and bulls, which averaged 129.86p, sold to 198.10p per kg for a Limousin cross from Gateside, and £1270 for another of the same from Upper Spittalton.

Meanwhile the 121 rearing cattle saw a Shorthorn cross heifer on milk lead the calf trade at £370 from A Morton, Lochend, while off milk calves achieved £760 for an Aberdeen-Angus cross bull from Halbeath, Dunfermline.

The sale of 1772 spring-born calves on Monday resulted in bullocks and heifers levelling at 263.5p and 247p respectively. A 336kg Charolais cross from Dippen topped the bullocks selling at 321.4p, with a 490kg Limousin cross from Dykes making £1150.

Charolais crosses led the spring-born heifer section at 300p for a 280kg entry from Auchlin, or £930 for a 380kg lot from Polquhairn.

Autumn-born bullock calves levelled at 237.7p having sold to 266.2p for a 462kg Limousin cross from Mains of Creuchies and £1230 for a 462kg Limousin cross from the same home, while a 400kg Limousin from 9 Killeonan topped the heifers at 267.5p or £1190 for another of the same from Percival.

The 4431 store lambs and feeding sheep were topped at £88 for Beltex from Balafark and Ninewells.

Meanwhile, the 238 beef breeding cattle sold to a top of £5000 for a Limousin heifer and Limousin calf from C Malone, Pitcairn.

The reduction sale of cattle from ML Wilson, Baluskie and Glenduisk Farms was topped at £2600 for a seven-year-old British Blue with Limousin calf at foot, to average £1560.

The same home also topped the in-calf heifer and cow sections at £2800 for a British Blue and £1700 for a Limousin, respectively.

Heifer calves averaged £702 having peaked at £870 for Shorthorns from WL Chambers, North Moorhouse, Newton Mearns.

Weaned heifers cashed in at 226.0p having achieved 302.0p for a 202kg Limousin cross from Atlantic View, Bunavoneader and £780 for more of the same from 41b Lower Barvas.

Store bullocks averaged 180.8p per kg selling to 229.0p and £1200 for a 524kg Limousin cross from 25 Lower Barvas. The same home also topped the store heifers at 229.0p and £1200 for a 524kg Limousin cross.

A Charolais cow led the OTM cattle trade at £1000 from 100 Cross Skigersta Road, Port of Ness.

The firm also sold 1941 sheep of all classes, where a pen of Blackface gimmers from Garyvard, Lochs, Isle of Lewis, topped the sale at £140.

Cheviots from Glen Kyles, Leverburgh, Isle of Harris, topped the store lamb trade at £90, while ewes made £80 for crosses from Arivruach, Lochs, Isle of Lewis.

Feeding sheep peaked at £130 for a Cheviot ram from Ballantrushal, Isle of Lewis.

The first prize pen of heifers from Messrs Pate, Stobshiel Mains, topped the females at £1030.

Outwith the show, Messrs Sinclair, Crookston, Heriot, secured the lead price of £1400 for a Charolais cross bullock, while top per kg was 276p from Huntington Farming Partners paid for Limousin cross heifers.

A Limousin cross from Messrs Hannah, Meoul Farm led the steers at £1360.

Spring-born male calves averaged 267.4p having sold to 334.4p for Limousins from G Paterson, Kildarroch, while Salers from Messrs Howatson, Risk Farm, topped the heifers at 490p. Heifers averaged 290.2p per kg.

Top price per kg was 367p for a 297kg Charolais cross bullock from Reisgill, Lybster and £1150 for a 468kg Limousin cross from Quintfall, Lyth.

A 338kg Limousin cross from Reisgill led the weaned heifer calves at 343.2p and £1160, to level at 252.6p.

Store bullocks reached a top of 239.7p for a 365kg Limousin cross from Barrock Mains, Lyth, and £1245 for a 607kg Aberdeen-Angus from Torbeg, Dunbeath, to average 212.7p.

Store heifers cashed in at 215.8p peaking at 250.9p and £1370 for a pair of 546kg Simmental crosses from Cruithn, Tofts.

Thainstone

All classes met a firm trade at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale where a Simmental cow with calf from North Towieturner, Auchterless, topped the trade at £3500.

Heifers hit a top price of £3250 for a Limousin with bull calf from Pitcairn Farm, Cardenden.

Cows with heifer calves peaked at £3000 for a Simmental again from North Towieturner, while Balgownie Way, Bridge of Don topped the in-calf cow trade with an Aberdeen-Angus selling at £1380.

The firm’s sale of 409 young and weaned calves was topped by bullocks from Achdregnie, Glenlivet at 286.1p for a 374kg Limousin and £1260 twice, for two similarly-bred animals.

Achdregnie also led the heifer trade with Limousins selling to 362.1p per kg and £1550. Heifers cashed in at level at 246p.

Texels from South Lea topped the sale of 1966 island sheep, selling to £110, while Beltex cross lambs from Gorfield, Cunningsburgh sold to £88.

All classes of store cattle also sold well last Friday, with 440kg Charolais bullocks from Hammer Greeny, Dounby, selling at 254.5p or £1390 twice, for a 650kg Limousin from Nether Tulloch, Oldmeldrum and for 696kg Simmentals from Croft Na Creich, North Kessock, to average 216.6p.

Heifers were topped at 279.8p and £1420 for a 778kg Simmental from Lawfolds, Durno.
