The aptly named High Flyers collective sale of in-lamb Charollais females and ewe lambs at Hereford Auction Mart, saw a top price of 3100gns, averages up across the board and a 100% clearance.

Society chairman, Arwyn Thomas, from Whitland, Carmarthenshire, produced the top seller when his 2019 show ewe lamb was knocked down for 3100gns to David Roberts, Kenley, in Shropshire. The gimmer is by Wernfawr Thunder out of a Glyncoch JPR ewe and sold carrying twins to Skyefall Virgill Van Dijk.

Mr Thomas also sold two gimmers at 1600gns apiece. The first, a Bronwydd Terminator-sired entry due with triplets to the first prize shearling ram from the 2019 Royal Welsh Show, Abryn Tonto, headed home with Justin Evans, from Glamorgan.

Dumfries-shire breeder, Helen Sloan’s Rigghead flock, from Dumfries, bought the second, a full sister to the top-priced animal and again due to Van Dijk. The Arbryn flock sold 15 gimmers to average £1067.50.

Second top price was 3000gns paid for a gimmer from Jennifer Curtis’ Elmwick flock, from Evesham, which was a show winner as a lamb last year. David Roberts, of the Boyo flock, forked out the cash this gimmer by Elmwick Solsbury Hill out of an Elmwick Mr McGregor ewe, and also bought another from the same home at 1100gns.

David and Paul Curran’s Wernfawr flock, from Brecon, sold ewe lambs to a top of 1600gns twice.

First was a December-born ET-bred lamb by Bronwydd Tomahawk out of a top producing Glyn Coch Night to Remember female, which was the choice of Jim Neil, buying for his Runningburn flock at Stichhill, Kelso.

Robert and Sam Tindall, Yorkshire, bought the other at 1600gns and they also went to 1400gns for Wernfawr Ultimate Warrior ET sisters.
