More than £190,000 changed hands at the dispersal of David and Rosemary Dickie’s Knockenjig Beef Shorthorn herd, from Sanquhar.

The herd met a spirited trade throughout, complete with a top price of 11,000gns, and attaining a whopping average of £5299.58 for 36 lots sold.

Following 11 years of dedicated breeding, they saw their roan heifer, Knockenjig Duchess, lead the trade when selling to Gates Farming, Rosemore Manor, Summerby, Coldoverton. A daughter of Meonside Gangster, she is out of Knockenjig Duchess, by Holmeere George and sold in calf to Fearn Jumpstart.

Just behind, on 10,000gns, was Knockenjig Duchess and her bull calf, Knockenjig Picolo, which was purchased by Leazes Farm, Mayfield,Wolsingham. This six-year-old cow is by Meonhill Charlie Chaplin, a former reserve senior champion here, out of a home-bred dam by Holmeere George. Her six-month-old red and white bull calf is by Leonard of Upshall.

The bull, Leonard of Upsall sold for 10,000gns

Leonard of Upshall, a three-year-old stock bull, was also part of the dispersal and sold for 10,000gns to SS Horton and Sons, Poulton Fields, Cirencester. He is by Dingo of Upsall and out of August of Upsall, a daughter of Cougar of Upsall.

Another cow and calf outfit, Knockenjig Margo and her bull calf, Knockenjig Poseidon, hit 8500gns when selling down to Halifax with AE and AJ Thornber, Calf Hey, Barkisland. This four-year-old is a daughter of Glengloy Geronimo, which was purchased as a calf with his mother at the Glengloy dispersal, and out of Knockenjig Margo Ex93, by Glenisla Barbarian. Her six-month-old red bull calf is by Fearn Jumpstart.

The previous lot, another Margo and her heifer calf, Knockenjig Margo, made 8000gns selling to Leazes Farm, Mayfield. This red six-year-old cow is another by Charlie Chaplin, out of a Margo by Fearn Wyvis, while her seven-month-old calf is by Leonard of Upsall.

Gates Farming went to 8000gns for the seven-year-old Knockenjig Rosie Duchess, and her heifer calf. The cow is another by Charlie Chaplin but out of Gregors Rosie 2, by Knowehead Maladdo, whilst the calf is by Fearn Jumpstart.

Knockenjig Rosie Duchess made 7500gns to T Russell, Stanford Park, Park Lane, Stanford in the Vale. A Fearn Jumpstart daughter, this one is out of Knockenjig Rosie Duchess 4, yet another by Charlie Chaplin. She sold nine weeks in calf to Leonard of Upsall.
