Carlisle

Trade remained strong at Harrison and Hetherington's weekly sale, where a total of 66 cattle sold in excess of £1200 with 23 of this passing £1300.

Topping the sale at £1455 was a Limousin heifer from A Bunting and Son, Midtown, Dumfries.

Messrs Hamilton's, Bee Edge Farm, run of Limousin and British Blue cross bullocks sold to £1445.

A larger show of 284 weanlings were forward, which witnessed Limousin cross bullocks from Gary Bell, Haas Side, sell for £1060.

Messrs Robson, Gelt House, sold British Blue cross heifers for £980. On the same money was a Hereford cross heifer from Messrs Smith, Campingholm.

The firm also held their weekly sale of 315 calves, which was topped by a Limousin steer from George Ireland, Morley Hill for £505.

Heifers peaked at £480 for a British Blue from TW Martin, Tempest Tower, Carlisle.

The firm also held their sale of beef breeding cattle, where trade peaked at £2400 for Limousin cross cows and calves from Messrs Stevenson and Son, Lower Langshaw.

Messrs Robinson and Son Gelt Hall, sold their heifers and calves to a top of £2100 for a Limousin cross heifer and beef sired heifer calf.

On Monday, the weekly sale of store sheep averaged out at £77.10. Top price of the day was paid for a pair of Texel cross lambs from Messrs Story, Hobbiesburn, Longtown which peaked at £110.

All classes of breeding cattle sold well at Dingwall and Highland Marts sale, where trade peaked at £3100 for a Limousin cross cow with a heifer calf at foot from Muirton Mains.

The same home also topped the heifers with a heifer calf at £3000 for a British Blue cross with a Limousin cross calf.

In calf heifers made £2950 for a Shorthorn cross from Braes of Enzie, Buckie.

The firm also sold 2691 store sheep, where a Texel ram from Lochdhu, Nairn, topped the sale at £380.

Lambs averaged £56.84 and sold to £120 for a pen of Suffolk from Ardvannie Croft, Edderton, whilst a Texel ewe from Woodside, Strathpeffer reached £122.

Bullocks reached 347.40p per kg for a 190kg Simmental cross from Auchrobert, and to £1300 for a 668kg Limousin cross from Elmscleugh.

A 151kg Simmental cross from Auchrobert, led the way among the heifers at 317.90p per kg, while a 606kg Charolais cross from Balthayock, attained £1220.

Averages increased on the week at Aberdeen and Northern Marts weekly sale of 931 store cattle and 11 young and weaned calves, with bullocks and heifers balancing out at 230.3p per kg (+5.1p on the week) and 230.3p (+4.0p) respectively.

Bullocks sold to 303.7p per kg for 242kg Charolais crosses from Pittenkerrie, Glassel, and to £1310 for 668kg Simmental crosses from Garvelside, New Pitsligo.

Limousin crosses from Haas-side, Lockerbie, dominated the heifers at 503.7p for a 268kg beast and to £1520 for a 306kg heifer.

Bulls (9) topped at 283.6p for a 342kg Limousin cross from Melvich, Thurso, and to £1040 for a 482kg Charolais cross from Inverlochy, Tomintoul.

The firm also sold 1948 store and breeding sheep, where store lambs (982) averaged £65.39 and sold to £100 for a pen of Beltex ewe lambs from Newton of Crathie, Ballater.

Steers topped at £905 for a seven-month-old Limousin from AJ and JM Fell, Mosedale End.

An increased entry of store cattle, witnessed trade peak at £1335 for a British Blue steer from Messrs Nevinson, High House. Whilst heifers reached £1190 for a Limousin from RJ Powell, Brimmer Head.

Among the store lambs a top price of £108 was paid for Beltex lambs from J Walker, Far Reach, who also sold others to £104 and went on to average an impressive £90.71.

The Annual ‘Final Fling’ sale of 620 rams of all classes at Lawrie and Symington saw fewer rams of all breeds forward.

The sale topped at £2500 for a Blackface shearling from Ramsay, Milnmark selling to W Tod, Glenshanna, Langholm, whilst more of the same breed lambs sold to £500 from Robson, Tofthouse selling to Brown, Clachaig.

Bluefaced Leicesters peaked at £800 for a shearling from Hamilton, Kirkton of Crawford, going to Shanks, Weston.

Among ring two it was Texel shearlings that led the way at £800 on two occasions, firstly from Howieson, Croft and then from Pate, Toxside, both selling to Bain, Ballagan.

Texel two shears peaked at £750 from Tough, Easterseat.

Suffolk rams were in strong demand reaching £720 from Frame, Craigthornhill selling to Knock Farms, Highfield.

The firm also held their weekly sale of 1223 store lambs of all classes which saw an active ring of buyers ensure another brisk selling trade with all classes again dearer on the week, selling to a top of £82.50 for a Texel from Greyside.

On Tuesday, the fortnightly sale of 481 stores and suckled calves, saw store bullocks and heifers average 212.4p per kg and 206.5p respectively.

Bullocks topped at £1415 for a Charolais from Townhead, Dolphinton, and to 242.9p for a Limousin from Powflatts.

A Limousin from Bottoms topped the heifers at £1235, whilst top pence per kg at 245.2p was a Charolais from Mackiesmill.

Suckled calves met a strong trade, where bullocks peaked at £930 for a Simmental from Greenlands and to 254.3p for a Charolais cross from Yondercroft, to average 226.5p.

Heifers levelled out at 222.3p to a top of £850 for two Charolais crosses from Lawriesmuir, and to 244.5p for Simmentals from Greenlands.
